Ok this has probably been posted before but i have done some searching and not found another thread for it so here goes.

I'm buying some new leather seats, they are from a series 2 and the passenger side is electric! The old manual passenger leather seat will be coming out and changed for the electric one. I have seen a thread before about the required wiring but not fitment. Will I be able to mount the electric seat on the old manual seats subframe or will i need to get the subframe from the car that the new seats came out of? Also help with wiring or a link to the other thread i saw would be appreciated!

Merry xmas

you can modify a drivers subframe to fit the seat thats what i did. you have to use the seatbelt off of your old manual one to weld back onto the new subframe . also to get the switches the right way around you have to carefully dismantle the switch and move the buttons around. it takes a little while fiddling about but worth it an electric passenger seat subframe is like rocking horse poo.

ok ta, ill just get the subframe off the bloke breaking the car - much easier!

this is the passanger seat with the seatbelt and switch on it.

Is the seat belt clip and switch part of the sub frame then? If so then this seat is with subframe, so can i just bolt it straight in and wire it up?

From what I can remember if you have the subframe for it as well and the conenctor all you really need is to get a feed off of some where. Best to take it from the driver's electric feed though hiding the wiring for it isnt going to be easy without ripping up all the carpet.

The seat belt clip is separate from the frame and I'm sure the controls was also part of the frame too.

so if the controlls are part of the frame then the seat in the pic should go stright in as the controls and frame are there?!

Been a while but from what I remember, the controls are bolted to the frame/seat, though having said that the frame should be removeable leaving the controls on the seat. The motor to move the seat foward and back should be on the frame so if your just getting the seat alone then it'll just be like a manual one. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm right about this.

Personally I wouldnt buy a series 2 passenger seat if it didnt have the frame as well!

That pic shows Seat and subframe together. Never seen a Zed seat sold without the subframe.

Right got the seats. They are not perfect but in good condition and just need a really good clean and treatment.

Both seats are complete with subframes. Looked at the wiring connectors and the drivers has a 6 pin spade connector block and the passenger a 4 pin spade connector block. The passenger seat doesnt have hight adjustment so it has less wires.

I have not looked at my car yet but i am assuming the drivers seat will be plug and play and i will have the 6 pin connector on the car. What i want to know is the function of each of the 4 pins on the passenger connecter, why would there be 4? I would have thought it would just need power. :wack:

Ok looked at my seats and it appears that the seat belt connectors have connectors for safety switches or something as there is some wiring going from the seat belt plugs to the car. I take it I can just leave them dissconnected as they are not on the series 2 seats i just got.

Oh yeah, another question, the bolts at the rear of the subframe to the car appear to have some anti tamper metal covers over them or something, do these just pull off?

just need to wires power and earth for the seat can easily be wired to the cig lighter but you will need to have ignition on to adjust seat or take power from fuse box down in the foot well next to the accelarater. caps should just pull off if you get a skrew driver under them :)

Planning on taking it from the drivers seat as thats always live. Do you know which of the 4 pins do what, what colour the wires are and there functions?

Ta Ed

the series two seats also have heater elements in them. so you will have more connectors. for basic fitment you just need a positive + feed and a negative-

Just a guess-do series 2 have a seatbelt warning light on the dash?

This could account for 2 of the connectors. :)

Otherwise I bet 2 are pos & neg for seat and 2 for heater(if fitted)

If you push the seat belt release button it sends a signel to the tensioner (mine is in the door) to tug on the seat belt. I never believed this till I tried it, and blimey it does.

This may account for some wires?

I read that s2 seats dont have bolster adjustment - well these do! Not sure about the heater elements. The wires going to the seat belt release are only on my original '89 seats. I do like the push button lock system on the headrest on the s2 seats, my old ones dont have this.

Took my seats out today and found 120 Yen!

Does that mean I am rich? I'm Guessing not!

The wiring is done, was very easy tbh. Used some good thick wire to connect the power from the drivers side to the passenger seat. I will just have to remember not to adjust both seats at the same time or it will probably take the fuse out.

Just got to plug and bolt in the new seats tomorrow. I gave up for today as it started getting dark and raining again!

Only problem a think i may have is with the drivers seat. We connected the seats to a battery to figure out the wiring and found that the rear hight adjustment only one side works! The front height adjustment both sides work, my mate rekons it could be because it was not bolted in, might have a bias system or something?

Anyone know the answer to this, do i have a faulty drivers seat?

I guess i will find out soon enough!

it should be bolted up make sure they are both inline with each other before you bolt them down other wise it will wind itself up (twist etc)
