Some w***er has now backed into my Zed in a leisure centre car park and driven off while I was inside. Drivers door and window wrecked, sat up all last night looking out window to keep an eye on car. Window just a gaping hole, don't know what to do till can get it done, as no garage! One witness, an off duty policewoman, got first 2 letters of reg, and said it was an asian in a green estate, possibly a mondeo! Can't believe it, I'm not having much luck lately as far as the Zed goes!

Still waiting to get the other insurance job done!!

I wasn't in it, I was inside the leisure centre with my Daughter, at her athletics club. The reception called me over the speakers about 15 minutes after it happened!

What colour is it, are there 'any' dents, is there 'any' rust, and how much is door and carriage? Is it complete door and is window working etc?

There is that place that pays out for uninsured motorists - it's not quick but they might give you some money eventually.

If it was a car park on private land you will have no recourse other than to claim off of your own insurance.The other driver doesn't have to give you his details (if you found him) and the Police are powerless to do anything either!

wrong mate , if you have his number plate the police will give you a crime number which you can take to the dvla and claim on his insurance , private ground or not ,,, it happened to me in a private car park , the guy wripped of me front bumper busted a headlight and lower spoiler on my scorpio i used to have police told me to contact dvla with there consent they gave me the owners details and i claimed on his insurance , and i payed him a visit , he payed for reapairs in full !!!

If he hit your car on private land, he hasn't committed a criminal offence, as it's a civil matter and the Motor Insurers' Bureau will not be able to reimburse you.

The police are powerless, as it's a civil dispute and you're down to relying on the other driver's goodwill!...Or threaten him if he doesn't pay...then you're in the wrong!

Failure to report an accident doesn't apply either, as the accident occurred on private land and no one was injured.

Car park damage can be a real pig, if the other driver won't co-operate or has disappeared.

Luckily the average driver will usually give you their insurance details at the time, as they're unaware that they legally don't have to!

True, but you have to pursue it through the civil courts.

 

Basically you have to sue them if you can find them and if you an keep your hands off them.

 

If you go round and threaten them then they can get you arrested however.

 

The stupidity of some of our laws.

Use a baseball bat on someone's car and it is criminal damage regardless, but use your car to do the damage and as long as it's off the public highway it's not a criminal offence!
