Well you haven't mate and you should be happy that your nearest and dearest are still with you and by your side. If you think what could have happened (as morbid as that sounds) and what did happen, you should be feeling fortunate. Zs can be replaced and I hope you do manage to get another one. You can put to rest this awful day then.

God, that's awful, really feel for you and the family - main thing is that you were all able to walk away. Know how i felt last winter when i had to stand and watch my wife being cut out of her rover when she lost it on black ice on oh, funnily enough, another ungritted road - what the fook is the council tax for!!!!!!

Best wishes to you all and rip to the Z

Chris & Marie-Anne

 Main thing is no-one was hurt (apart, perhaps, from pride).

Front-engined, rwd, high-powered cars are not the best choice for slippy conditions – even with winter tyres (which no-one in the UK uses)

Don't drive mine once winter really gets a grip. Good to see how tough they are though.

Best of luck with getting a replacement :)

even with winter tyres (which no-one in the UK uses)

Aren't propper winter tyres only for use in thick sheet ice and snow?

Aren't propper winter tyres only for use in thick sheet ice and snow?

Nope. That's a common misconception in the UK.

In fact, as soon as the ambient temperature drops below 7°C, even on clear asphalt, you have better grip (= better braking, better steering, less fishtailing) on winter tyres.

From this winter, in Germany, you would get done in such an accident for having inappropriate tyres = big fine and insurance won't pay even the third party claims as you are deemed to hgave been grossly negilgent!

In Switzerland, where I am, it is not mandatory to have winter tyres in winter, but you could still be in trouble if you used summer tyres and had a smash.

Have a look

As above mate, glad you, mrs and little one are ok, as it's been said it only a car at the end of the day, and it can be replaced, shame nice looking uk Zed as well

Neil

Glad to hear all the people were OK (that's all the matters, cars are pretty easy to replace) -- seems these Zs really can take a beating like that and the folks in the cabin make out fine. Have seen similiar postings like this here in the US and from Japan - looks like the car's survival engineering is very good...

I'm really sorry mate, that was a bad smash. Glad to hear all the people came out unharmed !

just seen this Trev and i'm gutted for you mate can't say anything that hasn't been said already glad your all ok.

but just to add one thing. if any of you have ANY pains at all, get down to your G.P or A&E Dept as these can come on some time after a accident like that.

graeme

Like everyone else , I`m glad none of you was hurt . Scrolling down the damage pics and then seeing your car as it was , in your sig , was sad enough for anyone to see . Can`t imagine how gutted you must be , mate :( . But , in the scheme of things , you and yours are what count .

Good luck getting past this , Trevor .

the main thing is that all the occupants are safe and sound. i cant imagine how you feel mate, but everyone here is glad youre all ok. cars are cars at the end of the day, they can be replaced.

No tyres grip ice that well.

True, but if you read the links I posted above, it explains see why they should really be called "cold weather tyres" rather than winter tyres.

Makes a BIG difference at low temperatures.

For ice, you'd need spikes – but you can't use them on a normal road.

For snow, you really need chains – especially for down hills.

holy poo! very glad you an all are ok. i supose it is getting to the season on crappy road conditions. so i hope all here are ready. becareful everyone!

GLAD YOU AND YOU loved ones are ok

if you have a look at my crash it looks sooo similar.

hope you all get well soon.

Morning matey,

Sorry i couldn't reply till now, i didn't get to go on the net till this morning.

Peach told me last night at the torque power what had happened and i was shocked. So glad you and the family weren't hurt mate, gutted you couldn't make it last night and what's happened to the car.

They always say these cars are fat and heavy but its a testement to the toughness of the build that it took that knock to the front and didn't hurt you or the family.

Hope you get everything sorted soon and look after yourself bud.

Nick

So what now mate. Do you have any thoughts on what you'll want to happen? Gotta look forward now pal, not back. It's done, time to move on.
