looking to change my isp and don't want to spend a fortune for unlimited usage, Pipex do one with a phone package has anyone dealt with them or not.

Featured Replies

know someone who's got it - they seem to have no problems at all - downloads are slow compared to something like BT he says, but there is no limit ..

and come on - the Hoff uses it - He's the man!

Been using Pipex for years with great service, just upgraded to the package you're talking about and it's due for change-over today :)

Vijay

Yep, Pipex are great. Been using them for 13 years at business and home.

They were/are one of the biggest Commercial ISP's, before offering Home services.

im using them, download speeds are unreliable at peak periods as with most 50:1 ratio services. customer service is quite slow but better than bt and the prices are spot on! be aware though that there are 2 sister companies called pipex... pipex homecall and just pipex. pipex homecall have the unlimited downloads and anytime calls for £29.99 a month whereas pipex is £27.49 a month for the same service but not including line rental!!

the both carry the same logo and both use the hoff so it can get confusing. i currently have my internet with pipex and my phone with pipex homecall and i have to speak to 2 separate companies... im moving house soon so i plan to use the the pipex homecall 29.99 package so that they are merged. though as they claim to be a different company i hope there service is as good if not better.

bloody hell i bored myself with all that rabble... sorry!

im in the process of changing over to pipex, been with aol for 2years and put up with the bullshit lol was on the phone just a moment ago to get my MAC number, the woman must of begged 3times for me to stay offering deals :wack:

been with homecall for a year so am swapping my dsl over with them £29.99 inclusive 8meg broadband unlimited

I used them for about 5 years. The actual technical bit of supplying internet usage is fine, good even, once you are set up.

The customer service and helpdesk on the other hand is the biggest load of sh!t you could ever have the misfortune to encounter. They are a bunch of clueless morons. I know what I'm doing with PCs and t'internet but the cnuts managed to first supply me with three faulty ADSL modems before they admitted there was a KNOWN problem with the batch, and they managed to leave me connection-less for 10 days 'cos they fooked up the MAC transfer when I finally left them. I've spent countless hours on hold trying to get through to report problems - they are severley under-staffed.

Avoid like the plague!

Sky Broadband (so far). 16Mb unlimited for £10 a month is coming next year (got 8Mb at the moment and I'm really happy with it).

Yeah bored me too, I didn't even finish it

No not really, just kiddin.

So what you are saying is the homecall is with line rental and you don't pay BT

You still have to pay line rental on top of the 27 odd quid but you can transfer it all to Pipex which comes to £38 a month all in :)

not with pipex homecall, they own the lines so there is no extra line rental to be paid to bt... its £29.99 inclusive. :) click here for details

the £27.49 package that doesnt include line rental is with this pipex company! confusing as the both use the same logo and 'the hoff'!

hmm i need to check the companies now! I had a nightmare with BT AND PIPEX trying to get broadband sorted out at our new house. Took over 1 MONTH!! and stupid amounts of phonecalls. BT said they'd sort the line within 48hrs three times, and each time it was like nothing was done. Finally someone said it was because the old resident had a service that put equipment on the line at the exchange (ISDN I think). They the said it would take 5 working days to remove that. When I got back to them again it was like nothing had even been said, no emails, no notes, nothing, I was going spare. They then said it wasn't there responsibility and I had to go through my ISP who would put in a request to get the line available for me!! I went to Pipex and they said it was a BT wholesale responsibility as they deal with the lines. I then had the whole thing of emails sent and promises of 5 working days again several times and yet NOTHING was done!! By this time I was taking names of everyone I dealt with and had some ammunition. Eventually someone new who I spoke with let me know who the company was who had equipment on the line for the old resident BL**DY PIPEX! Eventually BT sorted it out after I gave the manager a list of times that she had promised this would be done. Then it took another 10 days to actually get Pipex broadband on there.

Summary:! BT customer service are sh*te but at least its free 0800, Pipex customer service are sh*te and you have to pay for it! That said the actual line service from Pipex has always been good. Its an 8mb service here now, but I don't think its working very well, seems a lot slower at times. I need to do some tests.

BT nightmare

Pipex, not bad

Blueyonder. 15 years and never had a issue with them. As I am a "Loyal" customer I have a awsome deal giving me more bandwidth than I can actualy use

Right just had a stupid conversation with Pipex Homecall. If you have the £29.99 package with Pipex Homecall, the ISP is actually Tiscalli. If you are with Pipex and want to keep your email address (as I do), you can't go to Pipex Homcall/Tiscally with out losing your email address. The £38.50 I'm paying is internet with Pipex and calls through Pipex Homecare :(

as for the problem you had with pipex and bt Royal, i had the exact same problem and got the exact same reports from pipex and bt, one kept blaming it on the other and vice versa... grrr at isp's!
