I applied primer to my headlight panel today. Did what I thought was the correct prep - washed itm keyed it, sprayed 3 light coats.

Anyway I tried scratching it earlier, after it had dried and I managed to scratch some off. Does this mean I didn't do it right? Or would you expect it to come off if you started scratching at it like a weirdo?

actually I tried it again and I can't scratch it off. the part that came off was where there was a tiny gap where I'd scratched off a bubbly bit.

I'm only testing on a non visible area btw I don't generally go around scratching stuff ;)

Is it a stock Nissan panel or a cheapo fiberglass job??

Is it new or got existing paint on it??

Have you completely flatted it to a mat surface all over with 400 of finer??

It's a new cheapo fibreglass from z centre. Prepped it as it said on the primer can which was to clean then rub with 600 wet/dry

halfords primer is ok... for a couple of weeks ;)

we have some scary people on here!

Cheers for the tip

You need to get a proper plastic primer. Forget the name of it now, but it seals the plastic. It's a clear solution that you dab on. Once you've plastic primed it, you can then use conventional primer. As well as it being plastic, make sure the paint to be used has a plasticiser in it if the plastic to be sprayed has any 'give' in it.
