Now, THIS is really fascinating, and humbling comparison as well – most of us never give it any thought whatsoever, but it's rather dazzling to see it presented this way.

Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky.

It is more than 1000 light years away.

The universe is so vast it is not comprehensible by the human mind. It would be like an ant trying to understand the wonder of the internet. It can't be done.

The universe humbles us as it should.

The universe is constantley expanding!!!

For now anyway, then the gravitational force of the matter within the universe will cauce it to shrink, back into probably another big bang.

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving

And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour,

That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,

A sun that is the source of all our power.

The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see

Are moving at a million miles a day

In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,

Of the galaxy we call the 'Milky Way'.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars.

It's a hundred thousand light years side to side.

It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick,

But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide.

We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point.

We go 'round every two hundred million years,

And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions

In this amazing and expanding universe.

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding

In all of the directions it can whizz

As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,

Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,

How amazingly unlikely is your birth,

And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,

'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.

The Univerce is Infinate, it is expanding and contracting at teh same time.

For instance, Hubble shows us that teh Universe is expanding exponecialy from a single site, the big bang theory. Granted, the gravitational mass of the universe will at some point meet a thrreshhold and collaps back in on itself.

But at teh same time Hubbles universe has no end, If it did then it would not be the Universe, it would be a part of a paradox of Universes.

In a nutshel.

we are accelerating away from where wh first where. \Where we are now is not where we where just then, when we get there we will be knowwhere where we thought we where. We will then go back home and have a beer

Going on the spelling , I`m guessing some of us are already a few beers ahead , in the space-beer continuum

That`s what I like to see ! It certainly answers , for me , the eternal question : Are we alone on the beer ? ?

There is a growing movement within the scientific community which holds that the universe is in a continual cycle of expansion and contraction and that the idea of an origin point, a "Big Bang" is not necessarily "true". You could say that a "Big Bang" is very much a mirror of the human mind at work: we need something to have a start and an end. Like our own lives we concentrate mainly on the finite. To say that something just "is" , is beyond our comprehension. Just thought I'd mention it. I'll bugger off now ;)

Well pointed out , Mr Friday..as the great Mohamed Ali used to say " You ain`t as dumb as you look "

Nicely put :)

And your last two sentences confirm that : LOL @ you , sir !

;) :p

that's amazing!

Looking the other stars that are bigger than our sun, there has to be another galaxsy, and other life, makes you wonder if they are more inteligent, if so have they visited earth? would we even know if they had, is our planets atmophere compatible with them? i find it hard to believe looking at the picture's that we are all alone and the only intelligent life forms in the universe?

that's amazing!

There is some talk of "chatter " being intercepted from the the planet Mall , but it is unintellible nonsense . The only thing that can be made out so far is that it is inhabited by " Chavs " , who seem to speak in a sub-English kind of mumble , and tend to habitually breed before they are mature enough to form stable relationships . But it could all be alarming scaremongering by the government...let`s hope so .

Bugger me I don't understand the internet.

Ants have it easy. They don't have to get involved in the forum arguments.

we all are only what we are told we are  as far as they or us know we could just be microbes on the end of a dogs dik

That is incredible! Its difficult enough trying to comprehend the size of our own planet let alone Antares!
