Head Gasket Sealer?

Hi all,

Just got my head off and cleaning up the faces, you wouldn't believe how relieved I was to see a shagged head gasket when the head came off.

Anyway what do you lot think to using gasket sealer on the head gasket for that extra bit of grip?

And if it's worth doing which one?

Cheers,

Jezz.

Yeah cheers,

I did go searching the web and found lots of people saying no, what I did find though was this link, very good explanation of HG fitting etc.

My engine builder used some type of sealer with my Greddy headgaskets.

Apparently Spitfires won the war using this stuff.

I would have to get the name of it though!

I think spitfires had about 12 seconds of ammunition in their barrels, how much does that suck?

wink.gif You can buy these head gaskets with varying thicknesses in stages of 0.2mm

The stock head gaskets are 1.2mm thick so I decided to get the Greddy 1.6mm thick just to keep slightly lower compression.

Steve

Steve, do you know what compression you got with those gaskets?

DONT USE THAT SEALANT SHIT!!!

TO properly fit a head gasket, use a bit of grease. This allows the head and the gasket to slide whilst fitting. This stops the head gasket getting creased, or kinked.

Once hot the grease melts, and leaves a perfect seal.
