Hi my name is Nick I'am from West Sussex, I have just signed up for this website so Hello to everyone.

I own a Pearl Yellow Twin Turbo Import, I wondered if you could please help me with something my propshaft is on the way out and I have found a reasonably cheap one but unsure if it will fit. My car is a automatic 1991 twin turbo fit and the propshaft is from an automatic 1991 non turbo

Will this fit?

Many  thanks

Nick

AFAIK it's only SWB and LWB that are different (waiting to be corrected) what do you mean by 'on the way out' ? vibration ? if so will be prop bearing

And welcome to the nut house LOL

Thanks for the welcome and quick reply

Yep theres alot of vibration & knocking when I pull away, Yes I think it is the centre bearing thats going wrong

Not answering your question but is it definately the prop? Normally it's the rear gear box mount that sags with age and then the centre bearing getting dry. As the rear gear box mount is about £55 and the centre bearing is about £145, start with the gear box mount - it's an easy change too...

Here's how you tell. From cold, drive the car over a very smooth piece of road slowly. If it feels like a flat spot on one of the tyres then it's the rear gear box mount. This flat spot should go away after you've done a few miles at normal speed only to return the next time you drive the car after say an all-night standstill.

If it's the centre bearing then the vibration is felt at higher speeds - often comes in at about 50 and goes again at about 80.

Both of these are loose descriptions that vary with the amount of wear in each item.

Good luck

I had a mechanic look at it and he said you could see that the propshaft was deteriating, After reading your message Jack I am begining to think that the gear box mount is going wrong, your description sounds very much like the problems.

When I pull away at high speed it judders alot and when I am going along at a normal speed it Vibrates

i was under the impression that na has four bolts on the flange's an TT had six plz correct me if im wrong anyone

run over to Martyn or Mark at Zen garage or give them a call (horsham)....look them up in the traders section

NA and TT props ARE different. As is the centre bearing.

everything on the drive train wear out. its just the order of failure that varies. Centre carrier, shaft UJs etc.

i dont really know the differances between 300zx's.

i thought there were 4 bolts?

Nick

yes they are 4 bolts on a tt auto, i have a complete propshaft with bearing all in excellent condition off my jspec tt auto available

Front section and rear section confusion going on here. Front part AFAIK is the same, as long as its for the right transmission (auto/manual). Rear section is completely different for NA....

Your best bet is to replace the rear gear box mount as a starting point. If that cures it then ok. If not, then you haven't really lost anything as it was most likely knackered any way. They do need replacing about every 2 years (from my experience - and I use an NA as an every-day car). If the problem still persists then remove the propshaft and centre bearing - take care to mark it's alignment before you unbolt anything - and you'll be able to see/feel if there's any problems with it or the centre bearing.

Good luck

whats your email addy ??

Nick, im just down the road from you in Worthing, im in the process of rebuilding my engine, my prop is out of the car, so you could measure of it, to make sure your getting the right one. Tried to PM you, but you dont want messages. if you want contact me via msn.

Stu

still needing centre prop shaft bearing if anyone has one in good condtion and money

Your best bet (although more expensive) is to get a new one, a second hand one will likely fail at some point in the non too distant future. Try z-centre or mjp for good prices, or import one from the states.

i,ve got a good centre bearing, no splits on it which i bought of ebay to cure vibration, and still there as it was the prop joint dohh, yours for £40 what i paid
