Best Bond?

I used to think Dalton wasn't up to much but I watched Livng Daylights and Licence to Kill the other day and I have to say my childhood memories were very blurred indeed. His films are more realistic and gritty than the others which is why he's sometimes overlooked as a good Bond.

It also amazes me that after they got rid of Connery they got Moore who is OLDER than him. Granted he did look youthfull for the first few films, but when he did View to a Kill he was 58! And his face was nearly falling off.

Connery was my favourite and Moore least favourite. Always thought the Lazenby film was underated though.

A lot of people think majesty's secret service was the best film but with the worst bond.

sory i thought lazenbey was far better than moore. unfortunatly he would of done more if he did not think the films where going to flop and left the scene.

owns burger stall now if memory serves me well.

it had the best bond music ever that maybe that would be the reason...Lazenby wanst all that bad....plot daft brainwashing upper class girls on top of a mountain...Kojak as a baddy...

I have always been a bond fan, as if my username wasn't a give away. My take is this..

Connery is bond. Ian Flemming hand picked him and worked closely with him to make him the perfect Bond. The books were written alongside the connery films, so the Connery character of Bond and Flemmings character in the books are one in the same...

But just because Connery was closest to Flemmings idea of Bond, that doesn't actually mean they were the best movies. Lazenby was underated as was Dalton. The Moore years took Bond in a new light entertainment direction. All easy to watch and funny but not really Bond. Brosnan's films could have been great, but he just wasn't tough enough. You can't quite believe he could kick @ss.

I think Daniel Craig will be the best of the bunch. Close to Flemmings original character and gritty and tough too.

Either way - it's a franchise that will run and run and run. I can't see them making 21 Bourne movies!

Well i will let you guy know if Daniel Craig is any good next week when i see it :)

out of interest did Flemming pick Peter Sellers to do casino royale.....and (in defence of Roger Moore) that has to be the lightest entertainment bond movie ever...more camp than a carry on film IMHO

i dont think the original Casino Royale was anything to do with Flemming. It was the biggest load of tripe in the world and apparently it took NINE different directors to finish it off. was more of an attempt at comedy. David Niven also played a retired Bond in it :wack:

David Niven was the best bit lol

Yeah that was only made because sony had some rights to it so they did it. But now eon/mgm have all the bond rights so they'll be doing everything.

There were always rumours of another bond franchise being launched that would run in parallel with the mgm bond.

Of course Never say never again wasn't really 007 bond but at least it had connery in it.

  • 5 weeks later...

I think you might be right.

I don't think anyone can replace Sean Connery as he is the original and the films are still great to watch but Daniel Craig really brings it up to date for a new generation.

He's superb in a psycho sort of way and the film really explains why Bond is like he is.

I loved Casino Royale and have seen it twice now.

For me there is only one........

Brooke Bond :wack:

Yeah Daniel Craig is class and makes Bond more real than the ultra smooth brosnan.

And I got my limited edition silver sony erriccson k800i today with all the bond stuff. muhahaha!

I might be wrong but pretty sure I'm not.

Connery was actually second choice to play bond. Roger Moore was the number one man but had a watertight contract with the Avengers so coud not get out of it. As soon as he did Connery was booted out hence the fued with Cubby Brocolli and why Connery went out on his own to make "Never Say Never Again".

Pierce brosnan for me............the man oozed class and his films seemed alot better ......................

I have to agree there too. And I'm an old fart

Pierce Brosnan had the wit of Codger Moore and the action/style of Sean Connery. Pure class.

Timothy Dalton's 2 films were very good - especially The Living Daylights (Plus an ex GF of mine was the image of Maryam D'Abo - the blond cello player in case anyone's forgotten :p ).

I have to say, Casino Royale is an excellent film though. Daniel Craig did play it well - however I still think Clive Owen would have been a better choice.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i have to disagree with Clive Owen - yes he's a good actor and he'd make a better Bond than others, but he's not done anything near as large as Bond - he's only really just broken into the big screen. i cant picture him doing big action sequences. that first chase with Craig chasing that dude through the building site is amazing!!

Clive Owen is in many ways, or at least was, a bigger actor than Craig. But that doesn't really matter as most of the actors stepping into bonds shoes were huge stars before anyway, it was Bond that made them big. I personally don't think Bond as a huge star would work very well anyway.

Regarding Craig I thought he was class, absolutely spot on and a contender for top bond. However I do wonder how long his face will look youngish as its looking a bit ropey, having said that, I may be confusing his rugged look with age.

Connery left after you only live twice but was convinced to come back after lazenby's majestys secret service. I'm pretty sure they could have gotten moore by then if they wanted him for Dr No.

What you said may well be right, but it sounds a lot like the thing that hapenned when the producers wanted Brosnan for Living Daylights but couldn't get him as the news leeked and the remington steele people quickly signed him into a watertight contract.
