Over the weekend I upgraded by brakes.

I have never done this before, only half watched hubbie do my Rover's rears.

I read up like a good girl and thought oh well how hard can it be.

Saturday was going great untill I couldn't get the calipers off. Had to send hubbie to buy me a bar braker lol

I got very dirty, hot and sweaty but I managed to do it. New Brembo 10 groved discs and red pads.

Sunday came the rears, this time I had a better idea just what I was doing.

Off came the old worn away pads, the calipers and the worn down disc's. I replaced them with Brembo 10grove and red pads, and put the wheels back on. Great I think, then oh no have to adjust that blasted handbrake so off come the rears again. lol

I have almost got the handbrake adjusted when I hear a lound pingy/crunchie noise. The anti rattle pin had sprung lose and was rattling

Off come the rears again in order to replace the anti rattle pin by this time I'm getting very good at removing pads, calipers and disc rotors lol.

Well I took the Zed for a test run last night oooowwww those brakes all nice and responsive and the braking distance is seriouly reduced however handbrake still not totally adjusted for the big hill lol

Oh the joys of owning a Zed and the discovery of Girl Power :)

Good for you tho, when u have a free moment, pop over to Southampton and do mine!

:duffer:

brakes what are brakes?

Handbrake is on rear drum brakes not the rear disks. Changing the rear disks and pads shouldn't effect it.

Oh dear, I hope Karl hasn't read this, LOL!!!! especially if you're giving him a lift back down south!!

Am aware of that mate but you have to line up the adjusting cogg thingie whatever its called and the stupid anti rattle pin popped out and the only way to get it back in, is to diseamble everything again lol

Also my handbrake wasn't right and it needed some attention its better but not 100% as yet .

Gutted, them pins are pretty poor, kept checking mine hadnt fallen out after i did mine.

Hope you remembered to bed 'em in correctly!

check it at the handbrake end first - there's adjusment there, and more often than not you'll find a nut used to get 'that last bit of adjustment'... at this point, your cble's stetched beyond use! (or if there's no nut there, you can always put one there, if you don't mind being a cowboy (girl ;))

Yep, that's what am doing finnale adjustment at the handbrake leaver. I did everything according to my manual. Bloody manuals lol

Good effort!!!

I've lost count of the number of times people have rung me up "I can't get the rear disks off"......

"Have you let the handbrake off?"

"Doh!!!!"

Only thing I'd say is get a torque wrench and make sure all the wheel nuts are torqued to the same level - if not you stand a very high risk of warping the new disks ;) Should be 98-118 Nm :)

Eeek now they tell me torque wrench but I haven't got one. Note to self send hubbie to buy me a torque wrench

Did you just change the disks and pads or did you do the callipers as well?

Have been thinking of doing mine but have struggled to sorce some callipers that I can afford at the moment.

Where did you get the gear from?

Good job done though. I bought a manual but struggle to understand it.

Darrell

When you get your torque wrench, check the torque on the caliper bolts aswell just for peace of mind ;)

Front 98-118Nm

Rear 38-52Nm

:)

Yep disc and pads only, and I got the Brembo 10 groves discs and red pads, they fit the stock calipers, from Ricerocket UK in the end.

My manual is in pdf form so had to print of the relevant bits first lol.

All the best

Eileen

Thanks Andy for the inform mate :)

nice one Eilleen, how'd you find the rear's as about to do mine and like you have read up, and it's only the rears i was concerned about.... top tip there andy... (note to self... release hand brake#)

Neil

Sometimes the disks do get stuck on the hubs too. Some disks have an m8 threaded hole - screw a bolt in there and it pushes the disk off ;)

LOL that's what I did and the bolt needs to be nice and long.

I borrowed hubbie's special long bolt thingie with a t-bar at the top of it. It can from Japan.

You can put the the ring spanner loop over the t-bar bit of the long bolt to give you extra leverage. :)

Yep had to do this with mine when I replaced all my brakes.
