Hi guys, my mate has recently purchased a Supra twin turbo jap import with the six speed manual box, for the six weeks it took to get here all he did was sound off about how much better it was than my Z, he reckons there faster, stronger and far superior to the Z. So imagine the surprise he got when he raced my Z down the local bypass and spent the whole time watching my Z pull away from him in every gear!!!

Although I beat him he still reckons the Supra is a superior car because the engine is a lot stronger as standard, surely the engine cant be that much stronger or are they?

So what do you guys reckon Supra or 300zx (I know the results wont be biased at all LOL)

Both cars are running full exhausts, induction kits and remapped ecu's with slight boost increases.

The UK Supra was more powerful than the UK 300ZX. 320 vs 280bhp or there abouts IIRC.

Now it depends how tuned / fooked they are more than anything else I should think.

Edit - if they were both Japanese imports both would ave made about 280bhp when new.

To be honest the Supra engine probably is slightly better but arguably it's not as nice to drive as the 300ZX.

TBH, stock for stock the supra prob is a better car. looks gay tho! :p

engine stronger...no...its just that there are more high power versions becuase its a straight 6 which is easier and cheaper to work on...the VG is more efficient and makes more power for given boost than the 2JE-GTE !

Who cares what is strongest/quickest.

There is only one important difference between the two.

The Supra is uglier than Jade Goody!

Oh and well done on beating him down the bypass...

cheers guys there both imports I agree the Z is a better looking car not driven his supra yet he wont let me after beating him down the bypass LOL

the zed always gets a hammering from the supra guys that there cars are better and if the truth be said they are but the skylines are better than the supras so there

Totally agree.

I've never wanted a Supra. If I was going down that route, it would be for a Skyline, no questions asked.

But I still think a good Z, looks better.

Supra - poopra - frog on rollerskates :hurl: RIBBET!!!!!!!!!

I've read somewhere that the reason the mr2 turbo wasn't

sold in this country is because toyota didn't want their

flagship supra being shown up by a turbo'd 'penny racer'.

Stock for stock, the mr2 turbo is quicker down the quarter

mile than the supra. (rev3 mr2 btw).

id quite like the tt supra

one of my mates has one and looks and sounds superb

a few people from here have gone from a zed to a tt supra so they must be good!

Dashboard designed by primary school children too - I've seen more interesting planks of wood!!!

I want to know why we still havent had a day at the races, a couple of years ago we have the big race off, i read it was going to be zeds vs supras vs GTO's.

I think we should deffinately have one

Obviously im not quick enough yet though

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

stock for stock they are alot stronger engines as they have as standard forged pistons and a metal head gasket and the uk ones run slightly more boost and have 550cc injectors!! as it stands the supra is the best bhp per pound as you can single turbo a uk supra for about £2k and get around 500-550 bhp which aint bad for the money ;)

agree though stock for stock the 300zx is a nicer looking car

see what you mean the first time i saw the dash ie clocks did look like someone had got loads of mcdonalds cups together all different sizes and said ohh that look good as a dash board ,

but on the otherhand i know nothing about supras ,, they look ok and by all means there no different than the zed on reliabity etc , there all old now anyway !

Unfortunately, there's a distinct lack of big power Zs over here. There are more big power GTOs than Zs....as much as it pains me to say it, the Z would unfortunately come last.

That is probably true.

The Supra came out in 1993 here - 3 years after the 300zx. The reason the Supra was such a good car was all down to the 300zx - Toyota already planned the replacement for the Mk3 Soop around 1990 but when the 300zx appeared, Toyota went back to the drawing board because the zx was soooo good.

Despite a stock UK Soop being faster/better handling than a stock UK 300zx, the zx remains the better drivers car.

Plus the Supra is still fekking ugly and despite being a newer design, it has aged badly compared to the zx. The zx has a timeless look about it

Richard :p

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i have seen a few supras about and I can honestly say i would rather have a 300zx any day ( in its stock form ) but then i would be biased..No doubting that a popra is a good car, but a Zed, thats a different ball game!!

Hey Si,

rember that GTO we passed when you were test-driving your ZX

The GT/GTO is nowhere near as quick 0-100 as a zx. OK it may be a 4x4 but it weighs 1/4 tonne more! (However there are some seriously modded ones out there.....)

I think the GT (uk spec latest shape) is a nice car but having driven a few before buying a 300zx, I still chose the zx. Mid-range overtaking acceleration in the GT is pants compared to a ZX

Sure the supra is a nice motor, but they are everywhere like scoobies, at least the zed is in a class of its own, bit fewer on the roads, but still stand out from the crowd.

I have driven, worked on and been in many supra's, many times., and had friendly races with them in zed's too....and in all honestly...yes the toyota is marginally better in some areas in comparison to the zed (which is exactly what they did do for 3/4 years before launching it)....but they are minimal and when choosing between them it all comes down to which one you prefer rather than one being better than the other.

....although IMO the Zed does feel like more of a drivers car with a sportier feel to it ...supra has a more german sports saloon(family car) feel behind the wheel, and although its a very capable car it takes a while before you feel you can throw it about like the zed.

Isnt there a vid somewhere where an american magazine tested a z vs a supra and they chose the z as the winner.
