Well it had to happen sometime......

My zed lost all power thru gearbox this eve, no traction what so ever

Car was ok all day, then started to make a whining noise, then started losing power within minutes, then nowt.

What are the classic symptoms of a f**ked auto box.

Looks like the cars gonna be laid up til next year....maybe time to change car, maybe not....maybe a manual conversion.

Problem is....dont want to throw good money after bad....spend 1500 on a box or save the cash & chop the car up for goodies....even tho Ive only just got it painted etc etc.

Opinions pleeeez ;)

Check the strainer and oil level. Although if the strainer is blocked then you've lost a fair amount of clutch/belt material so the days are numbered... At least if you can clean it, it'll give you time to collect all the bits for the auto-manual conversion ;)

I only did about a mile when I started to hear a slight whining noise then I stopped n called the 'men'.

So what ever it is....I caught it early, perhaps damage may be limited.

I suppose the Q? is how long is it likely to last if I clean the strainer...btw how long's string :slap:

Yep I looked at the cleaner threads...so looks like I'll give that a go....if I can get under the car, lol.

Thanks for the advise lads.

Is it an easyish job to do?

cheers

If I can do it, anyone can. There's a "how to" guide which I used. I'll see if I can find it...

It’s worth getting a new box for the amount of time and money you have put into your baby. Some people might be scared by the performance of these cars, that doesn’t scare me what does is making it home when I go out in it. :p

hiya chap that the same problem with me ended up on the back of the tow truck, the whining nice is lack of oil in the convertor/auto box, the strainer is a filter, if blocked (mine was full of little metal shavings and dirt but after 13 years this aint bad) no oil will go through to the box resulting in no pressure, no lights came on the dash at all because there is oil in the box, i followed these steps http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/autoTrannyOilChange/autoTrannyOilChange.html, took me all of an hour to do this job, and the car is back on the road and fine, done this 3 times to flush all the old oil out, hope this helps and good luck regards andy
