I have had my import zed tt for a year now and i am conscious that the wet salty roads could start eating away the underneath of the car. If i jack the car up and slap on some waxyoil rust proof with a brush will that do the job or should i take it to a garage for them to spray the stuff on?

Do it yourself, dirty job but well worth doing! Did mine a few months ago and now i sleep easy with the rainy season starting! You can buy cans of spray on waxyoil for the hard to reach places from halfrauds and then just use the brush on stuff for the rest.

Get a decent wire brush as well, get rid of as much corrosion as possible before applying the waxyoil then get the hot water on as you will be covered in the stuff after!

how long did it take you to do? how long does it last and how'd you get under the car?? ( no silly answers please) did you just jack it up or did you use a pit?

Seen the halford stuff, think it's about £30 to do the whole underneath of the car.

Cheers

Don't forget the inside of the sills. They're a triple cavity affair so must be a nightmare to repair when they go rotten.

I've just done mine with a 2 foot long flexible lance and a couple of aerosols.

You can get to some bits from the front hole behind the arch liner, and from the rectangular holes under the sill trim, but I still needed 4 more holes drilling each side to make sure I got everywhere.

You could do the car on jacks but ive got some planks of wood i use to make a ramp and drive the zed up. More clearance and safer than jakes IMHO. As for time, depends on how good a job you want to do, also depends on how bad the corrosion is that you need to wire brush off. I did the entire under side of my zed and most of the suspention components as well so took a few hours all in i guess. Only thing to watch is that you dont block the targa drains near the sills (little holes pretty obvious) but other than that can pretty much cover the whole underside
