Having had absolutely no luck with the 300zx i am considering letting the guy who is using it for filming at the moment sell it for me.....apparently its quite famous now and should recoup some of the fortune I have spent on it due to its new found fame....its been in the paper and will be on film 2006 etc.

I am considering buying an M3 on an 02 plate and wondered if anyone had any experience of the car in terms of performance and importantly reliability!!!!

Your opinions are always valued.

Rob

PS.I really wanted to make the zed thing work but I trusted the wrong garages with the work and over a year later the car will be fixed and I've lost interest

Maybe I should reveal who did the work? On a lighter note who fancies a race when I get an M3!!!!! How do they perform in comparison?

By the way. Good M5 manuals can be had for about £10k. That leaves you a few grand spare to get those 19" BMW rims pictured above, a nice exhaust and some other bits and bobs.

They come with absolutely everything as well.

Trust me I know the feeling lol. Only difference is I took my car apart then had all the parts nicked so now i can't even put it back together :( Still got faith in the good old Z32 tho ;) :)

God has blessed you with great patience!!! Either God or Nissan anyway

Ok, so I like the E46 M3. Does look nice. But have you also considered an M5? I find the 3-series as a whole a little 'common' if you catch my meaning.

Sorry, that looks SHIT!!!!!! Seriously!!!!! Shit shit shit! I feel sick...

You have a point, but its more the image of the car than the door issue I was concerned about when it comes to clients!!! My zed is EXTREMELY LOUD!!

Rob

Tell you what, I bet you'd get more questions and interest about the Z than you would about the M3. Everyone knows the M3, the Zed is more of a talking point.

I got chatting to a guy in the local petrol station a few weeks ago who had a new 6 series. He commented me on how nice my Zed was. So all is not lost.

And a big cock....

Oh, I'll throw the wild card in now and I'd have one of these over an M3 any day. Ok, so they're not to everyone's taste and there's a lot of badge snobbery on here, but the Monaro VXR is a hooligans car. That LS2 6.0 V8 is an absolute Gem. Again, these come fully loaded, are exceptional value and the motoring press loved them.

Little bit out of the price range, not by much. The 5.7 is within the price range, but the VXR will be down to around £18k - £20k by early next year.

Rob :)

Cant we all chip in and buy si a bmw? just think of the long term benefits..

Here's the first donation:

1p :D

I quite like the latest (E46?) M3, but the old E36 is just a pimps/drug dealer's car and I wouldn't even piss on one if it was on fire

However I wouldn't buy an E46 as the 3 series looks to ordinary unless it's the convertible. Now the M5 - like Si says is a different matter. Fast and subtle and with a better image than the "rep mobile" 3 series (afterall, the M3 doesn't look much different to the 318 tdi, does it?).

I do like the 8 series, and there are some pretty good examples out there for not a lot of cash now. Although I think they have dated more than a Z32 - the lift up lights are a bit old school nowadays.........

..........8 series is slower than its rivals too (Z32 included) so if I was picking another old school bruiser (other than Z32 ;) ) it would have to be the Porsche 928gts or Merc 500sl.

Still love that Monaro though Si - serious depreciation though. I looked at a "normal" version in January as the VXR was a bit out of reach but prices have tumbled since then so I'm glad I didn't bother :nono:

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Personally I'd go for the Monaro VXR, you'd still maintain being an individual and have lots of outside interest in what you're driving and they sound lovely with that V8 engine. BMW's are everywhere and don't really inspire, an enthusiast would know your driving one but in general you'd just blend in to the background. I suppose it all depends what you want at the end of the day, to get noticed or blend in.

I love the fact that I drive a 15 year old car that can hustle most things on the road and not everyone knows what it is, I'm not an attention seeker but it's always nice to be noticed every once in a while.

Go for the Monaro, you know you wanna. ;)

IMHO M3 is a bit 'obvious' and I wouldn't have one because of that.

Me neighbout had a year 2000 M5 - very fast but it used a lot of fuel.

my neighbour has a BMW 850 for sale on a 95 plate. looks stunning i must say and he reckons hes gonna put it up for 4995 and see what he gets offered. i dont know much about their value but i was shocked it wasnt more than that. ive been tempted on a M3 CONVERTIBLE on a 03 plate, but an 850 for that price did get me thinking. is that about what 8 series fetch.

I've driven both the M3 and M5 and loved them both. I was blown away by the M5 though, much better than I expected with the performance and the brakes are outstanding. I'd try them both before making a decision.

Buy a BMW instant :xxx: appeal dont forget to get the :xxx: attitude as well, nice cars if you wanna be 1 of the sheep

 At least I'll be a  sheep instead of a :hurl: one!!! I've spent almost as much as an M3 costs on the zed and still not driven it for more than a trip to another garage!

I obviously have taste as I bought a zed I'm afraid they're just too impractical for me now though I've got to think realistically about future bills for the damn thing.

Plus I'll get it chipped and the airflow sorted with some milltek gear then we'll have a little race!!!!

Thanks for all your thoughts

Rob

I do agree with him. BMWs do seem to have an awful stigma to them. The 3 series especially. The E36 is the chav wagon of choice after said chav is old enough to get insurance not before selling his Paxo. Wonder how long it'll be before we start seeing E46s with hideous kits and the same sad to55ers driving them that seem do think the E36 is the fastest thing in the world. ;)

The BMW M3 is the choice of the average joe round where I live in London at the moment where as the chavs have limited edition porsches!!!

To be honest its about having a reasonably large car that shifts when you want it to and is discreetly designed....no one can argue that the M3 fits the bill.

My zed is going to be up for sale and is now fully fixed....refer to the for sale section but change the blown tub bit for new 360 thrust bearing ones. its a nice car with 99' spec upgrades and you lot will hopefully offer more than 1500 for it now!!!

Rob

i had acess to a 02 m3 evo model and you know something it was the most solid car, it felt safe, turned heads and did not go wrong once, its performance was fantastic and build quality was great if i had the coin i would buy one without thinking
