APEXi BOV's! Doing me Abba!

Right, a while back the Smith Meister(Smithy) put a post up about a group buy on APEXi(pukka) gear!

So I have never really bought into the dump valve/blow off(raspberry) valves. But I want some. I have a Twin Tub and wanted the Blitz but bummer, they have stopped doing them! Why? Your guess is as good as mine!

So, apparently the APEXi BOV's won't fit with a Stillen front! They must with a standard front as the APEX website states that they do BOV's for our cars.

I am now in melt down, Rob_B has the HKS BOV's I think looking at his rides section. Point being that someone, can't remember who, said that coz the APEXi's are front engine mount they'll stick through the mesh on a Stillen front!

But looking at the Rob Meisters rides pics his HKS BOV's are mounted behind the oil cooler. So how the fuck do the APEXi's not fit?

Me and the Dukester are mad for these, they are adjustable, vent at 120db's, full on dual chamber etc.

Anyone got 'em????

I've had this discussion with Macca, he's not concluded as he's not seen them but has given sound advice. But I'm not convinced, have emailed Phuong(the main man over the pond) but would appreciate any comments from the looneys! LOL wink.gif

Tim, I've got the Apexi BOV's...and I can't see why they wouldn't fit on a Stillen Front.

They don't even come close to the bumper, they are located very close to where the stock recircs were/are ...next to the oil cooler and they stick out to the front for about 15cm

they are VERY loud smile.gif ...and the loudness should be adjustable, but personally I don't hear the difference between the different settings.

Build quality of the Apexi's isn't really very good though...same is for the material they're made of.

If you're running high boost (>20psi) forget them...mine started to leak air above 15psi (~ 1 bar) and I had to take them apart and put some extra seals inside.

i have these as well, but cant see how they would foul the stillen front, unless the mesh is set a long way back ?

they were a pig to fit though, especially as i was too lazy to remove the oil cooler and other bits...

i am sure you could use a shorter hardpipe section and mount nearer the original recirc position, like some other makes !!

Tim,

it was me who told you about the Apex BOV's not fitting behind the Stillen front. I read a thread on TTNet about it.

If you get them to fit behind yours when its done, can you let me know? wink.gif

Dave

all you dark jedi's wiv ure apexi only the true jedi's thought ahead and got the blitz which can be repaired even if the diaphrams split......ahhhh apexi if you strike me down now i will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine

sorry timmy but i must ask. Whats the point when u have an autobox. You will have no performance increase, and wont hear the blow off unless ur keen on lifting right off the gas while ur moving wink.gif

You don't really get a performance increase anyway, just loads of fuel dumped into the cylinders for flames (assumes no CATS) when all the air accounted for by the AFM gets dumped to atmos when you let off, the ECU thinks the air has gone into the cylinders, so it wacks loads of fuel in to the mix, shame the air's go off scaring scaring grannies.

Pressure Vein etc don't suffer from this though.

This is why the std ones are recirc, so the metered air doesn't leave the system, or not all of it, some probably goes backwards past the AFM and out the filter, depends what boost you run I suppose.

Bigger turbos seem to benefit from DV's more as they obviously take longer to spin up etc, so by not stalling them on lift off you reduce LAG spin up time by keeping them spinning.

I'm sure that they benefit the turbo by not wacking them with a a stack of boost everytime you let off though so helps keep bearings etc healthy for longer.

But face it they are for scaring people smile.gif biggrin.gif and making flames. smile.gif

Jezz.

Clarkey has a very good point there fellar - I sense he has been paying extra attention in his Modular Science Class this year.

Since we have deduced there are no need for them on a Auto i would like to suggest Macca and / or Tooley send me there Blitz ones at the earliest convenience - I will be happy to reconnect your stock Recircs at the next meet wink.gif

Please please buy it - im gettin desperate now god damit !!!

sorry matey i cant send you mine as i use them at the cruises to piss people off when we have a who has the loudest dump sound compo i always win as the beast has two .....i have to say though sometimes after getting giddy with them the drop off after is so much the engine stalls lol

well yeah they sound great, but you wont hear them. That is of course you like to sit there revving ur car. But then you wont get a very loud noise cos there wont be much boost to blow off when ur not moving. And when ur moving in an auto generally u dont want to keep lifting off the throttle. Seems a waste of a lot of money to me, but if anyone is offering any from their autos after my little explanation of why they are no good on an auto then I will gladly recieve them biggrin.gif

Cheers for all the responses guys, Eric I doubt I'll ever wanna run my boost that high so they should be OK for me mate! wink.gif

Just that the APEXi ones are slightly cheaper than the HKS which is what's swinging it for me.
