My Zed, although a 1995, does not have electric seats so I have bought an old drivers seat with the electrics in good working order and now want to transfer these electrics to my drivers seat (which is in excellent condition). I was advised on an earlier thread that it wasn't difficult.

Would anyone who has done this conversion please give me some advice as I have looked at both seats and, to be honest, it doesn't look an easy job at all.

going by memory i think you just change the seat chassis over the actual seat bolts on to it, then you only need 2 wires going to the seat for power i took the power from the fag lighter dead easy

Good question Dave - I've got an electric driver's seat which is currently set as far forward as possible  Have tried wiring it directly to a battery to move it but no joy :( Would be useful to know where to wire it in properly

Have checked under carpet and can find no sign of a connector/wiring for it...

Thanks craig-s, but I have just bought an electric drivers seat today and you're right, they are darned heavy. What I am trying to find out is how to transfer the electrics to my drivers seat.

Carl, thanks but your memory might be playing tricks on you. From what I can see there are electrics inside the seat back probably has a motor inside to adjust the rake of the seat back, that's not going to unbolt from the chassis.

I left myself open to that one, but it's the drivers seat not the passenger seat

AFAIK you will need to swap over the upholstry.

Both the metal subframe and the seat base are different.

Has anyone done this? It sounds like too specialised a job for me. Any ideas who might quote me for doing it (swap over the upholstery I mean).

Yellow Pages is your friend. ;)

Car Trimmers & Upholstry. is the section. ;)

what i said to him in not so many words :)

Well, I phoned a guy on yellow pages who quoted "£350/£400". Unbelievable!

I phoned another guy who estimated "£70"......seemed reasonable (compared with the first guy) so took the Zed + seat for him to see....."not sure, but at least £80".

As I only paid £20 for the seat (including a non-electric passenger seat) I thought I should have a go at doing it myself. BIG MISTAKE! Took me a couple of hours to get the seat base seperated from the back part and remove the seat upholstery but the back is proving a real b*****d to get the cloth off.

At the moment I'm stuck but I'll update you when (if) I manage to get any further. Thank goodness I haven't touched my Zed yet.

Cheers - Dave

Thanks Pete - I saw there was a zip at the headrest slot but I haven't found the ends yet as I haven't got up that far. At the moment I am trying to find out how to remove the 'flip-the-seat-forward' lever and cover as it is preventing me removing the upholstery up any further.

I donnt think the lever comes off .

Oh yes it does..... ;)

I donnt think the lever comes off .............the seat cloth can stretched and then prised off .

This write-up I did ages ago may help:

Martin, Your write-up is brilliant and will help me a lot in completing the task. Your photos show what a professional job you made of your retrim.

Pete, How does the lever and its cover come off then?

For those who are just following this thread, doesn't it just prove what membership of this club is worth and how helpful it's members are......I could never have got this degree of help anywhere else.

Cheers, and thanks, - Dave
