Warranties

Right, my gearbox has started to play up - it is a bit jerky between gears. Would this be a good time to purchase a warranty, would I get away with claiming for a box & anyone know any good places to get one from.

I have mine with Warranty Holdings.

It would be a good time to get it, but to be safe, you may have to run with the car for about 6 weeks, otherwise they may get suspicious.

Leigh.

Where are you Dirk Diggler(Jay)??? Auto or Manwell?

AGS in Watford did a soft rebuild on mine, clutches, exchange torque convertor etc. for 1200 squids. Auto by the way bud. wink.gif

I'm an auto geeza, can't really afford to be shelling out a grand on a rebuild, so a warranty seems like a good idea - you got any contact details for them Leigh?

You could get the warranty then you have two choices as I see it! Try(but I don't think a warranty company would have this) getting them to stump up for a Fast Road Re-Build at SE or just go for a standard rebuild which is what I did.

AGS in Watford ask for Dave I think or possibly Andy on 01923 249179

Had mine turned around within two weeks, I was well shocked when they rang me and said "your car's done!" LOL biggrin.gif

They picked the car up from Stevenage and dropped it back when it was sorted. That's customer service!!! wink.gif

Yeah but Jay, a warranty company will tell you to get quotes for the job mate! wink.gif That's what I was on about.

Not always, Timmy - with both my Turbos and the PTU, I dropped the car into Nissan Dunstable, they rang Warranty Holdings to say that the car was in and what needed doing, Warranty Holdings gave their authorisation and then Nissan just gave me my car back when all was done.

Yep you're right, similar scenario when my heater matrix blew. Car went to Arriva in Peterborough then Bob the man liased with my warranty company.

Christ I actually got something claimed on a warranty, was well happy chappy! biggrin.gif

My warranty company wouldn't pay the whole whopping hourly labour rate though, I only got something like 26 squids an hour so still had a fair sized bill to pay. As most of that job is labour.

Right, gave Warranty Holdings a call - they don't deal with the public, only dealers.

Anyone know of any other companies ???

Jay,

I just tried and got same response!!

I wouldn't mind a warranty for peace of mind.

Anyone know of any other place?

Matty.

I got this from 'Warranty Wise';

The following components are covered against mechanical or electrical failure on all Warranty Wise STANDARD (vehicles over 10 years old/over 100,000 miles at policy start date) policies:

ENGINE: The rocker assembly, including hydraulic followers, inlet and exhaust valves (not burnt valves), springs and guides, cylinder head (not cracks and decorking), cylinder head gasket (except skim), push rods, camshaft and followers, timing gears and chains (excluding tensioner), oil pump, pistons and rings, cylinder bores, con rods, gudgeon pins and bearings, crankshaft and bearings, inlet manifold, flywheel and ring gear. Timing belts are covered as long as they have been changed in line with the manufacturers schedules (proof required).

MANUAL GEARBOX: Internal gears, sychromesh hubs, selectors, bearings and bushes and transfer gears.

AUTOMATIC GEARBOX: Internal shafts, gears, clutches, brake bands, valve block, governor, oil pump, bearings and bushes, servo, drive plate and transfer gears.

TORQUE CONVERTOR: Failure of any internal mechanical parts.

CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION CTX: Internal clutches, planetary gears, reduction gears, shafts, variable pulleys, thrust link drives, internal seals, bushes and bearings.

DIFFERENTIALS: Internal crown wheel and pinion, gears, shafts, bearings and bushes, thrust washers and spacers.

WHEEL BEARINGS: Front and rear wheel bearings.

PROP-SHAFTS: Universal joints and couplings.

REAR WHEEL DRIVE: Half shafts, rear-wheel external drive shafts, including constant velocity joints, universal joints and couplings (not gaiters).

FRONT WHEEL DRIVE: Drive shafts, including constant velocity joints, universal joints and couplings (not gaiters).

CLUTCH: Centre plate, pressure plate, release bearing, oil contamination (centre plate only) and master and slave cylinders.

ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM: Radiator, water pump, viscous fan coupling, thermostat and thermostat housing.

FUEL SYSTEM (DIESEL AND PETROL): Carburettor, mechanical or electrical fuel pump (including fuel injection pump).

SUSPENSION: Hydrolastic displacers, hydropneumatic spheres and coil springs.

STEERING (INCLUDING POWER ASSISTED STEERING): Steering rack and pinion (not gaiters), steering box, idler box, power steering rack and pump.

FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM: throttle body, airflow meter, idle control valve, cold start valve, warm up regulator, overrun cutoff valve, throttle potentiometer, fuel accumulator, pressure regulator, map sensor (except injectors and heater plugs).

BRAKES: Brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, restrictor valve, brake caliper seals.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: Starter motor and solenoid, including pre-engagement mechanism and bendix drive, alternator/diode pack, coil, voltage regulator, indicator relay, front and rear windscreen wiper and washer motors, electric window motors.

WORKING MATERIALS AND CASINGS: Oils, oil filter and anti-freeze are covered only if it is essential to replace them because of the failure of a part which is covered under this policy.

CASINGS: If any of the covered parts fail and this damages the casings, they will also be covered.

ECU (engine Electronic Control Unit), Air Con (Compressor), ABS (modulator and Sensors) and Turbo (Turbocharger Unit) are included for all Executive and 4x4's Vehicles. Additional cost for all other cars.

Any parts not listed are not covered. Wear & Tear is excluded from cover.

Is this any good?

As I am no mechanic I have no idea what's what.

HELP!!

You can add, ABS cover, ECU cover, Air-Con cover, MOT cover and Turbo cover and this comes to £302.40p all in for 12 months.

Quite handy with MOT coming up!

Matty.

Nice one Leigh, that would be well handy - When I change through R-N-D the car jerks slightly & when it changes gear it is not smooth. Also as stated in Tech, when I put my foot down the revs rise then after a short lag the car accelerates. Changed the tranny fluid and it has improved slightly but there still seems to be a problem, there is no way I can afford to get the box refurbed myself so this seems to be the only option.

On the other hand, this might be normal as I have never driven another Z wink.gif

Jay

------------------

slogo.jpg

That's what mine started doing and gradually got worse, I had mine in before it went bang fully though!

If say you were waiting at a roundabout, put foot down to pull away, nothing, revs would shoot up like you were in neutral. After a few seconds something would engage and you'd start to get drive.

Twas burnt clutches on mine bud! wink.gif

Nice one Matty, can somebody have a quick look at the site http://www.warrantywise.co.uk/

& check if it looks ok

Cheers

I am very interested in this also, just got a quote with Turbo cover, Aircon cover and ABS cover for 30 months for £479.

Seems like a lot of money but it aint when it gives you 2&1/2 years cover - when one considers what certain jobs on the 300zxTT can cost...

Keep this thread rolling - anyone have nasties to tell us about warranty companies and their dodgy exclusions and get out clauses ?

Choz,

Glen

Looks good, £180 for 6months inc. Turbo cover. Probably go for the 12months though - about £270.

Be good to hear if anyone has used this company before, don't want them to stitch me when my autobox goes & my turbo seals go after removing the cats wink.gif

One way or another, I have to have a warranty by next week. I will be speaking to them tomorrow.

Keep you all informed

People!!

I have just been sent an email from 'Warranty Holdings' and I asked them about a group type of thing, but I got back from work late and the guy I need to speak to has left until Monday so I will be trying him again first thing Monday morning, he said in the email they were very keen to quote us on the Z but they would need a copy of the sevice historys on our Z's (no problem there I shouldn't think)

I will keep this thread on the first page so it keeps us all informed, ok?

I also contacted Warranty Wise and they would be interested in a group deal for X amount of cars, the more we have the less we pay type of thing, usual deal on group buys. I will be speaking to a very nice sounding young lady from here on Monday.

Keep you peeeps posted.

Matty.

Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce... (sorry no sound!) LOL

The blokey I spoke to at Warranty Wise said that the turbo's weren't covered unless they had been changed at 50k miles in line with Nissan recommended service intervals - I said to him that sounded a load of crap as they don't need replacing at 50k. He told me to go to local dealer & get a service schedule from them which I have done & no turbo replacement listed (suprise suprise).

We really will have to watch what is covered on these policies or we could find our selves not being able to claim.

Will be ringing them again Monday

Just spoke to them again & they now say that the turbo's are covered & that the bloke I spoke to was thinking of another car!

Will order a warranty from them next week -

£299 for 1 year inc Aircon/ABS/ECU/Turbos seems pretty good really.

I had a 1 year warranty with Warranty Holdings when I bought my Z in 98.

I could claim any number of times within the year but each claim could only be for a maximum of £1000.

They were very quick in authorizing claims.

I thought they were quite good, but at the end of the warranty I wanted to get back the invoices(All original invoices for work had to be sent to them). After a year of calling them and being told "its in the post" I just gave up and deemed those bits of my service history lost (4 grands worth).

Matty if you do get a group discount I would be up for going with them again as they were very quick in getting a claim authorized (hope they aint changed for the worst in 3 years!!).

Trev

Me too!

I will be up for the group buy so keep us posted smile.gif

Glen

Had my written quote through this morning from Warrantywise.co.uk.

£299 for 12 months cover.

Seems to be a comprehensive cover, about the only things that aren't covered are the Fuel Injection and components like the AFM.

The only thing I have found is that there must be 3 months MOT left on the car, so tin order to be on the safe side you would have to MOT your car every 9 months, otherwise you would only be covered for 2/3 of the year.

Would be very interested if the is a GB on Warrenties from WarrentyWise. You only need the autobox to go US or the turbos and its well and truly paid for itself.

That's interesting as they haven't asked for any of mine. Nissan gave me their invoices with PAID IN FULL - WARRANTY WORK stamped across it and I've never had to send anything to Warranty Holdings....
