Hi guys,

Did a compression test last night. Here are the results in psi:

Passenger side:

Front 157

Middle 154

Back 154

Drivers side:

Font 160

Middle 160

back 157

Are these any good? This was a dry test without oil and without the accelerator down. I thought that around 150 was ok.

Cheers,

Bart

That's pretty good results. All fairly even. What's the mileage on the engine?

IIRC it's a case of you want all the numbers together and not major difference in them :)

Not bad results at all :)

The thing is that the car has done 112000 miles, but its on its second engine. I didn't have any real history with the car (silly mistake really) so I don't know the real millage of the engine. Is it possible to estimate from the results?

Unfortunatly the car is rusting away (UK 92) but the engine seems fine. The tubs seem to be 'ok' a little smokey when left to idle for a while. I did the PCV's to see if that was the problem but still did it. No smoke while driving though.

I'm thinking about buying another later version with less miles, and an import for better body work and keeping the car as a donor. Would love to patch her up, but i think i will be fighting a losing battle with the uk weather. :(

One other thing. The revs have been picking up occationaly at idle. from about 650 to 700 up to 1500 and just holding a bit. After a few revs or a little driving they settle back to idle again.

The TPS is new and setup is spot on. Just changed coil packs which has improved power but it was doing it before that. My temp sensor is a year old. New PCV's.

Any ideas?

very good results, if it was under 140 then its showing signs of wear, under 100 lol well that says it all

LOL I did a 13.8 at pod with 3 cylinders at below 40psi  That was running 11psi boost

UK cars are dying off fast! I'd strip back to the bare shell and sort the rust - you'll end up with a car worth a lot more by the time you're done! MJP do replacement body sections if you need them :)

Yeah, but I would need both rear quarters and a drivers wing + complete new cills. :(

I've got little spots of rust popping up here and there to. It's a bloody shame really. Would be a great project for someone who dose body work. I've spent loads getting the thing to run like a dream and drive nicely. Not to mension upgrades.
