Thanks

From a trader, Smithy does a couple of different makes, if they are not balanced properly it may cause crank problems.

....and most of the ones sold on ebay don't have a timing mark... ;)

Yeah, and that's a real pain. However, it is possible for an engineering shop to mark one up accurately from an OEM pulley.

I would'nt trust them, but some have. Better to buy an original Unorthodox than a cheap copy.

Thanks mate :)

Yep I do the SGP and the Unorthodox pulley sets both of which are seen to be the most reliable and better balanced around.

There is a reveiw on the SGP one in the private reveiw section.

Went to veiw another Zed about 2 months back, 1000's spent on upgrades and all receipts in a folder, there we found one for 30 odd quid on an ebay pulley and couldn't understand why when all other parts were top brands.

The car now has a bottom end rattle and you can actually see the pulley wobble as she spins, no idea if both are connected or not though.

Anyways some SGP kits in stock, supplied with the correct belts for whatever model/year and genuine nissan belts too ( except 1 on a UK spec only)

£100 delivered :)

cheers

I got a cheap ebay one. Had no probs and saved £70 odd quid!

I dont see how they cany be balanced at they are turned on a lathe?!?!?

I had an ebay one too and no probs but it's probably pot luck when they're so cheap.

how do you set the timing so?

Set the timing correctly with an original pulley, then fit the new light weight one, turn the engine to tdc and mark the new pulley at 0 deg. on the timing marks that will give 15 deg btdc when running

Anyone remember who the seller was?

And does the price start to be the same, more or less, when you add in the belts that I think come with Smithy's as a kit? I guess the standard belts become too long?

i too have lightweight pulley from ebay (2fast 2cool).

i use the consult to check and set timing so no need for timing marks.

Chris.

I saw somewhere that this is not accurate at all.

Timing can be set only with "stroboscopique" light.

Bad idea. Conzult only tells you what the ECU "thinks" the timing is, not what it really is.

LOL you reckon? Plug the consult in and move the CAS about a bit - see how much the timing value changes ;) IE NONE! The consult shows the timing the ECU is trying to achieve, the CAS is adjustable so you can set it so it actually IS achieving the displayed timing... You MUST have a timing mark on your bottom pulley, no ifs or buts!!!!!

yep got an ebay pulley no probs so far, can see the need for a well balanced pulley with the original cast steel one cause its so heavy (about 8-9 kilos iirc) but with the lightened alloy one being so much lighter (1.5 kilos) it could be quite a bit out before having any affect, saying that idealy pulleys of any weight should be balanced.
