Superbike racing

I've just posted this in the tech forum by mistake, sorry!

Just had a bit of a scrap with about 8 superbikes down the A30 between the M25 and the Crooked Billit roundabout, i got my arse kicked as i knew i would, but i think my little baby gave them a bit of a shock! I have no idea how fast i was going as i couldn't take my eyes off the road, well over a ton though. I got a couple of nods of approval from them as we pulled up at the lights which was nice.

Man i'm still buzzing now! God i love my Zed.

B*stard - I just posted my reply in the Technical Forum b4 I noticed you had changed the post. Now I'm in trouble too frown.gif boo-hoo

I did that the other day too.

Had this guy trying to get past coming off a roundabout.

I came off in the right lane to block him so I could get in a straight line before letting him past.

Pulled over into left lane and heard him floor it past so I stomped on the gas and kept with him for a good quarter mile when he looked back he did a double take seeing me a foot from his arse!

He couldn't believe I was still there so he flattened himself to the bike and screwed the nuts off it. He looked so stupid and still didn't get away! My passenger was pissing himself ROFL

We both gave up at about 120 coming to the end of the dual carriageway but he shot past some other traffic to spare his embarrasment.

You need a good bike to get away from 400+ bhp.

Never get races off cars anymore as they can all tell they will get wupped but bikes seem to like to have a go. On paper these big bikes have impressive 0 - 60's but how many riders dare use all that power without coming off the back? Not many of the ones I have raced have.

Can't say I have had one beat me by much at all.

2 bikes were pulled up in the outside lane at some lights next to me revving away. As the lights changed I stomped it and kept up with them. The one closest looked over and did the double take so I waved to be friendly. Seemed to really put him off. I love when the time is right for that. Cant wait till I can use all of my boost with a controller! 14.5psi sucks.

Bikes are a much better test of a Z than cars; most cars are easy meat wink.gif

I've beaten a couple of Ninja's and had to brake right behind an R6 on Sunday, as I was going to take him but was running out of road.

I always keep an eye out for bikers in traffic queues though, moving over to let them through the gap between two lanes:- Its amazing how many appreciate this and wave their thanks.

Dave

A few days ago I was at some lights on a National Speed road, and I didnt see a bike coming on my out side and go past as it went green. If I had time I would have got behind and gone after him. Would have lost but not by too much.

Yes I do that too Dave. If I see one coming in traffic, move over slighly and leave a gap infront for them to slip into. They always notice and say thanks.

There is no reason not to. They are not gonna make your trip longer, the next chance they get they are going past the next car and you are back where you started.

I do this cos I have been a passenger on the back of one and when you get idiots taking all the room it is very dangerous.

Stuart

Dave, Stuart (& all) - top marks for noticing some bikers appreciate your courtesy.

Apologies on behalf of the rude b*stards who don't wave - but as a confirmed 2 and 4 wheel user may I say it is a pleasure to share the tarmac with you and people like you.

Shiny side up, guys! biggrin.gif

Funny you should mention an R6, as I had a run in with one last night.

He overtook me on the enterance to a dual carriage accelerating hard.

I caught up with him about a mile down the road in the outside lane doing about 60, when he saw me he dropped a gear and floored it.

I figured I'd get hammered, but decided to give it a go anyway.

To say I was surprised with the result was an understatemnet!.The yamaha pulled slowly ahead of me from 60 to about 100, but at 110, he wasn't gaining any ground on me, by 125 or so I was gaining on him, and by 150 I was a good 15 car lenghts ahead, at which point I braked back down to 60 and the yamaha stayed behind me for the rest of the journey!.

I'm going to get me some TD-05s, and pick on some R-1s biggrin.gif.

(the numbers I refer to were of course KM/H and not MPH, cause that would be illegal, and all this occured on my own personal dual carriageway which is not a public road wink.gif )

Chris trust me on this you would be a spec in the distance if you raced a Blade,R1,GSXR.

The Yamaha R6 is only 600cc FFS no turbos either biggrin.gifBut it would Kill any car off the lights up to a ton,A Yamaha R1 with a good rider you would never even come close,so don't take stuff on that will make your Z look like it is electric powered.

I raced an R6 from the lights once. And he fluffed it bad on the start, at about 140 he maneged about a car on me , then the wierdest thing happened,i came back past him, And held about 2 cars before we both backed off.

I agree with mac though, anyone who knew how to drive one would spank you silly.

This guy was very impressed, and we stopped and chatted.

He was adiment he was flat out, but i suspect he was not that brave.

Had a race with a bike in my MR2 once. Couldn't tell you what it was now as it happened about 8 years ago. He followed me all the way through 2 villages, not overtaking when he could. Eventually he did overtake me and then slowed right down, so I overtook him and then the chase was on. I got my MR2 1.6 up to a whopping 125mph smile.gif and he was right on my tail for what must have been a good 20 - 25 minutes.

At the time, I wasn't attempting to race, I was attempting to get away from him as it was approaching midnight, I was only about 19, I'd had the car for less than a year, I was on my own and we were in back country lanes.

Anyway, he followed me onto the A1, still doing stupid speeds and I got to the bit which is now closed, but where you could cross the A1 without going on the Up-And-Over. I stopped as there was a car coming, bike pulls up next to me, taps on my window.

I open it about an inch and he gives me the thumbs up sign and says "Nice Driving! Good to see someone who can use a car properly" and promptly blatts off down the A1, leaving me to drive the 500 yards left home.

I agree with you Ian, when you start getting up to fireblade level there is not much that would take a bike. I have owned a few GSXR's and they are quite amazing performers. The last one I owned pissed all over a 355. He looked a bit upset when we pulled up at a set of traffic light afterwards. I had a bad accident on that bike and thats when I went back to cars and bought the Zed.

They are great fun but F**king dangerous. I am happy with just my Zed now. It has enough kick to put a smile on my face when I drive it!!!

Tell me about it. My brother cracked 3 ribs, punctured his lung, wrecked his Ninja, totalled his helmet and had to have his leathers cut off him in hospital....from a standing start!

Bikes aren't dangerous - it's the people who ride'em. I did and I was dangerous, never actually hurt myself though, except when I was about 18, inexperienced and got knocked off by a car. Still have the creaky knees ! wink.gif

I would contest that, Andy. Bikes aren't dangerous per se agreed but neither are the majority of bike riders. It's the muppets in the cars that don't look down their right hand side behind them before pulling out to overtake, or not seeing the bike on the road and pulling out in front of them. Happened twice to a friend of mine - he's since given up bikes...

When I worked for the police, being a police biker was one of the most dangerous jobs because people just didn't see them and a lot of accidents occurred from car drivers just not paying enough attention to the road about them and injuring the bikers.

What makes me really quite angry, though, are the twazzocks who ride bikes in jeans, shirts or trainers, not the proper leathers.

When I was in the 2-wheeled biz in the 80's, the Met boys in blue found out that their own bike coppers had less accidents than car plod.

Both trained to the same standard at Hendon - yet car drivers more dangerous than riding bikes. Our theory at the time was heightened awareness of traffic / better visibility / more awareness of how painful falling off / being hit can be all contributed to riders being "safer".

The training course is excellent - and you can even buy the Roadcraft manual (one for bikes, one for cars) in WHS. I did a course based on this on me bike and a) it made me a better/safer rider & b) a better/safer car driver & c) faster. Sorry, I meant "more able to maintain good progress, officer".

No really, one of the best and cheapest upgrades you can do is go on an advanced driving course - you'll get safer and faster. It's also another good excuse for taking the pride and joy out.

(Now who wants to run the sweepstake for when my accident is going to happen - knew I should have kept my trap shut!)

Yours Captain Sensibly - Gio

oh and PS Ajay, you're sooooo right about badly dressed twazzocks. Still, the first time they get a case of gravel rash, they'll learn the hard way. Ouch!

I read this thread with amusing interest,as most of you may know i am a proud zx owner along with a five and a half litter twin turbo tr8 pushing 450 bhp.I am also the owner of two super bikes, the ZZR1100 (185mph)and a exotic MV Agusta F4 @ 175mph(only around 900 world wide, less than 100 bikes in uk).

I know there are some quick cars out there and i have full use of afew of them through my job,but i find it funny when every man and his dog recons they beat a superbike off the line or up to 150mph ect.

I think it fair to point out that its not the superbike thats slow its the rider who probly bottles out,for thouse of you have not expereanced the proformance of superbikes may not understand how vunerable one feels while going from 0-100 in around 5-6 seconds, these bikes are not mesured in 0-60 times, one important point is this you do not fall of cars, but you do on bikes,or does a car driver constantly look for potholes or spilt fuel and gravel ready to throw you.

This reply was not to disbeleve anyones claim but i thought i would put the point of view of a super bike rider over.

On a closing note it would be good for us to test our cars against bikes on a runway nothing sereous only for fun to see how we realy fair, and for thouse who would like to sit on the back of one of my bikes you to can expereance the stunning performance of a superbike and the vunerability.Chers guys Chas

Hi Chas - f* me. A ZZR and an MV?? Lucky lucky bloke.

If anyone else is interested in your back-to-back offer, maybe we could rope Perf Bikes into covering it (and getting us into Bruntingthorpe or somewhere)?

Everyone else - charlie is right - until you've had a go on a decent bike you probably won't appreciate just how quickly these things can accelerate. Big adrenaline rush (or as me old m8y used to say "that's when you find out adrenalin is brown!").

Bikes are awesome. No doubt about that! My mate used to have a Honda VTR1000. He gave me a go on the back once along the A456 in Halesowen. Now this was my 'test track' for my old S13 200sx. All I can say is the bike accelerated to my known marker unbeliveably quickly with us two on board. Collective weight about 32 stone!! I still can't beat it in the Z!! I am still about 10-15MPH slower.

Any bike these days over 750cc will accelerate (if rider has hairy enough balls)to 60mph in about 3 sec, GSXR1000 about 2.8sec. So to achieve that in a Z will require major weight loss and serious HP increase!

One other thing bikes have over cars in general is price. £5000 will buy you a s/h Hyabusa. How fast do you want to go? 190+? No problem.

Anyway, back to the moving over issue. When my mate started riding 6 years ago, he said that 25% of cars in traffic queues were arseholes, now he said 75% are arseholes!!! It's no wonder you get a wave when you move over for them.

Charlie!! MV Augusta F4's are sex on two wheels!! Nice one.

I had a go with a ZZR not so long ago. On the M5. Acceleration 'tests', he was 1 foot from my back bumper, I was flat out. I couldn't shake him off so I gave up quite quickly. When he passed me he had ZZR1100 stickers on the side! Not quite the 600 I thought he was! DOH!

Respect to all bikers and Z owners out there.

P.S. one thing my Z has on all bikes...6 cylinders and 2 turbos singing to me through 5" tailpipes! Bliss!

Many regards

Robert.

Isn't that exactly what I said...

"On paper these big bikes have impressive 0 - 60's but how many riders dare use all that power without coming off the back? Not many of the ones I have raced have.

My Z isn't stock after all.

Its no wonder the guy pulled over with you a foot from the rear of his bike,i wonder if you have ever been on a superbike with some fool tail gateing you in his safe little cell of metal around him,on a bike you come off at over 50mph its my gess you die!!

Any way like i said in my last reply i have use of some very serious cars from ferraris to astons all with serious power and on acceleration from a standing start the cars dont stand a chance when a bike is rode in a balls out manner, thats why a bike on a quater mile is doing low 10s and nines.

Like i said i will happly bring along my bikes along with my own 300 ZX ofcourse,to show how fast bikes are with a rider who is not afraid of his own machinery, but hey i am not a out and out biker i love all things fast i even have a wet bike(70mph Bo Hoo)Chas

That to the point charlie. I agree with you 100% and like i said the guy i had a go with had no bottle what so ever.

Paul paul hes our man biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Anyone seen the Supra Video where they race a Hyabusa rolling in 3rd, and the car absolutely pisses on the bike, they then get another one and again does the same thing. But then the supra does have 850 + rwhp.
