Best Polish For ZED

While I was working at the Ideal Home Exhibition I was talking to a guy who was working on a stand called MER products. They produce all sorts of car cleaning products but there polish is supposed to be unique. The polish can be applied to the car bodywork if it is wet or dry!. They advise to leave it on for about 15 mins then buff it off. The benefit (apart from the shine) is that water just will not collect on the paintwork (much more than normal polish). So much so that in furture washing of the car you don't have to dry it. Sounds bollocks but I watched the demo this guy did and it was quite impressive. I bought a small tub the other day and will give it a go tonight on the Zed. Will let you all know if it is good. Has anyone else used this stuff?

This stuff has been sold on market stalls around the world for years. It does seem to work OK though. They have very dramatic demonstrations, like pouring lighter fluid over a bit of paintwork and setting it alight just to show how it protects the paint from heat - complete bull of course but fun to watch.

Sheltered life I have had see Andy, I had never heard of it. You have just described some of the demo that was done. I suppose once I use it I can set fire to my car safe in the knowledge that the paintwork will be fine!!!.

its used a lot in the boating world as its quite good at keeping the slime and scum that builds up on hulls and stuff

i have been using Mer for a couple of years now, and had no trouble with it...

as well as using when the car is wet or dry, you can also pour some into your wash water (which makes it go crap) but then you just wash as normal, and polish as you dry....

you can use a wet cloth to apply with, and it will also act as a fine cut, removing the odd surface scratch

saw the lighter demo years before i actually used it, but have never gotten round to actually trying it.....

The lighter fluid demo is indeed BS - you can pour lighter fluid on your hand and set alight to it - not on the hairy side though wink.gif

It is the vapour that burns not the fluid - so your hand (or car bonnet) won't feel a thing.....

They do some of the Mer range in Halfords.

There is a Mer Tyre & Rubber Cleaner (?) which is one of the few things you can use to clean rubber mats, as it has no silicon in it. Other companies, like Autoglym, do mat cleaners for the trade but not the public. The mats are still a bit slippery afterwards! Clean other rubberwear as necessary!!

So you've used it twice then? biggrin.gif

Or are the rumours not true anymore?

Simon mate

Good to see you back on the forum smile.gif

Mer is good gear - used it for 3 years now.

There is no product on this planet that makes cleaning up your zed easy though - its bloody hard work full stop smile.gif

I am doing my headlights btw Si, and when the zed is back on the road - Ill pop round and see you - hows the missis by the way?

You know, that's the f**king problem with living on the Isle of Wight. We don't get all this stuff until years after you mainlanders do!!

I heard a rumour down here that soon we can buy small phones without cables you can carry around with you that work through somethings called satellites...WOW...the furture is here!!!!

What will they think of next, TV through these satellites I suppose!!

Hi there Glen M8

Would love to see how much difference the headlight upgrade makes. Deffo must get around to doing mine, they are shite!!

How's the shop going M8?.

My missus is ok, I am now on red alert as we have only seven weeks to go before sprog number 2 clocks in. Will make sure I take her to hospital in the Zed this time. Great excuse for some Fast and Furious action to St'Mary's. After that I will then get to chill out for a few hours on the gas and air..AAHHHHH!!!

i used that mer stuff once, and from what i remember it was a twat to rub off. Although i have a mate and he uses the stuff on his cozzie and swears by the stuff, he says if you use it often then muck and stuff washes off dead easy. Im just a lazy twat so i try to avoid vigorous rubbing when i can (adult channel 5 min freeview excluded of course). i actually got the missus to buy me one of those lazy tway auto buffer machines to rub your polish off for you and i have to say its mint.but for me autoglym super resin polish is the one for me, although i havent tried that extra gloss polish they do too, must give it a go one day.

I get pissed off how the polish always gets stuck in the gap between where the front wing meets the bumper biggrin.gif

Paul

Polish??? biggrin.gif FFS why have a car that can hit 60mph in 5.5 seconds and get close to 200mph if you're just gonna sit there saying how shiny it is? biggrin.gif

Joke btw wink.gif

Glad all is well with you and the good lady Simon, get some of that gas for the Zed mate smile.gif

The headlight upgrade is a bugger of a job but it really looks the biz! I can give you a hand if you want to do the upgrade - its godda be much easier seconf time round..

The shop is doing great, thanks... I see you have remapped your ECU, I let the cpu you gave me go as it scared me but I am going to fit the EVC and am looking for some advice regarding ECU upgrades, would love to go out for a spin in your motor smile.gif

I have a few quid to spend on my Zed now the financial year is out the way and am thinking about the UNICHIP, like the idea of remapping to suit further upgrades.. we'll have to have a drink mate....

Oh and by the way:

MER has been around for years...I prefer Autoglym Super Resin Polish though. It's expensive, but very easy to buff off after and gives that 'showroom' gleam smile.gif

Hi Glen

If you are thinking of going for a uni-chip, before you do, you would be most welcome to take my car out for a spin to see for yourself. Would give you a good perspective on how much difference it would make on your car. Glad to hear all is well with the shop M8.

I will deffo take you up on the offer of the headlight upgrade as they are shite at the moment. Will pop in and see you when I can get away from our Winchester branch and back to the IOW.

Seez ya!!

On the polish front I use Meguires, its from the states. They have tested this polish against Zymol, and no significant difference could be seen. Except the costs, Zymol min £100 up to £1000, Meguires around £30 for Body Scrub plus finish polish.

Mercedes, Porsche and Ferrari in the states both recommend it.

Leigh.
