hi danny

how many miles are you thinking of doing in a year?

Not many to be honest. 3000 maybe?

I would forget trying classic insurance at 18! Not until your almost 30 that is! As I've found out.

If you can find someone that will accept your age then a 3000 limited mileage policy might work. Try giving a few a call and see what they quote.

ahh there you go. Thanks bud

to be honest you will struggle with classic car policy at your age

i struggled to get it and im 26

You may be lucky.......

.....but to qualify for classic insurance you must have a company car or another daily driver. The insurers will only give classic car cover where the ZX is a second "occasional use" car.

You may find it trouble at 18 as well..........but you'll never know unless you ask!

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

footmanjames had me insured on classic insurance on my MG at 19

however at 18, you have to ask yourself if this is the right car for you, the figures read nice, but its going to be an expensive car to run,

Thats true. the insurance, while very steep, isn't much compared to a years running the Z. even if it doesnt let you down (and as a 15+ yr old supercar they do get troubles), the servicing, tyres, and 15mpg @nearly £1.00/litre gets a little silly at times. TBH you will need a very good job and a bit of luck to run one for long. ever been on holiday and it cost you £500 in fuel alone then a £50 service at the end? ouch.

How long have you been driving for?

I had only been driving for 22 months when I bought my 1990 Jap 300TT, nobody but Adrian Flux would touch me insurance wise and I paid through the nose for it, even on limited miles (couldnt get classic insurance), but as I already had the car so I had no choice. I was 27 at the time. I would dread to think what it would be for someone who is 18.

Good luck!

Dave

The only other thing you could look at is getting one of your parents to insure the car and put you down as a named driver. Car would need to be in your parents name and it may still be expensive but might be worth a shot.

Good luck

Pete

when i got my zed at the age of 20 4.5 years ago, my first years insurance worked out to 2grand third party fire and theft

last time i insured it at the age of 24 it worked out at £600 fully comp

my golf now only costs me 400fully comp :) it's not as much fun though

Cheers for all your help guys. I'll make a few phone calls

I am 23 and cant get classic insurance for this car until I am 25. I pay £600 a year with 6 years no claims, and only 6k a year as its a second car. I am afraid to say that you will almost deffo have to forget this dream for now.

Insurance is a total lottery IMO. I'm a professional man, nearly 50 and live in a leafy suburb of London. I have 11yrs no claims bonus at least on 2 policies. My Z is a third car so required a new policy, ie no "no claims".

The quotes I got for it were so random it beggars belief how they work it out. They varied from £2000 to £600. Some companies wouldnt insure me at all because my Z is an import and others insisted on a tracker being fitted before they would even consider insuring it.

The answer is SHOP AROUND and check the small print on the policy you're taking out covers you for what you need.
