My mate was going to apply for a job he could easily get. It was with a county council in a field he was interested in. He's a bright guy - PhD from Cambridge in a science subject.

I saw him the other day and asked if he got the job.

He said he hadn't bothered applying as with the £30K a year salary he'd only be a few hundred quid a month better of than he is on the dole.

Makes me wonder why I'm sitting here working?

thats the point you are at least trying. by the sounds of it this guy is like a friend of mine. really boils my piss when he gets a flat rent free money and help with the bills. when i work my ass off paying ridiculous rent and bills and i cant even get on the property ladder

im on property ladder so thats makes it even more important that i get back on track!

its only been 3 days so far but...christ, i couldnt cope doing nothing all day everyday! im bored already!

it was kinda nice yeasterday having a lie in tho!!

He hasn't just got a flat - he's managed to get the rent on his three bed house in the countryside near Cambridge paid for on housing benefit.

that makes me sick!! a few of my (now non-)student friends are on the dole, pisses me off as they are off travelling half the time and living rent free, with bills paid etc!

i am on around 21-22k and get half of it taken from me by the ****ing taxman!!!

well my business after paying taxes and everything else isn't netting me much above 18k. I do sometimes wonder why i bother then i remember i hate having a boss and i hate having to get up if i don't want to :D

They have to take that to pay for my idle mate!

Anyone remember that Lizzie woman on 'Wife Swap' who was getting £50K (tax free obviously) from the social?

i think we have found the person to set this aggressive clique on!! lol

I'm afraid The Clique is for more sinister affairs within the forum. ;)

I remember that bitch can we use our aggresive clique to go wipe her out mate?

EDIT: PSYCH!!! :hyper: :slap:

He said he hadn't bothered applying as with the £30K a year salary he'd only be a few hundred quid a month better of than he is on the dole.

?!?? Utterly speechless.

For the sake of being a "FEW hundred quid" a month better off I'd probably *change* jobs never mind get a job having been unemployed. No offence, but is he completely mad or something? Seriously, read the following and see if it doesn't sound even more insane the further you go down the list:

"I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £100 per month better off."

"I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £200 per month better off."

"I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £300 per month better off."

"I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £400 per month better off."

"I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £500 per month better off."

...

I'm sure you all get the idea. Unreal. I think I need to go for a lie down after reading that.

Tell me, have you burned the soles of his feet with a hot crack pipe yet?

Clearly the pause between me writing "utterly speechless" and then writing the rest of that comment doesn't quite come across on the page.

   Now I really am speechless!

I had been on the dole for 18+months and had to manage on £54 a week, was glad when I landed my new job at £15,500 snapped the blokes hand off, all I can say that he is an idle bugger who needs to get off his a**se and get some work done instead of being a Bl**dy scrounger. Sorry rant over

Unfortunately it makes all too much sense.

I'd happily swop with him - chuck in my job and get what he gets for nothing.

The problem's not him, it's our government dishing out money to idle feckers.

Did you know we spend more on social security than: health, education and defence put together?

I'd stop all their giros.

think how ifeel, one of my tennants gets over £200 a week and gets all his benefits paid for, then he says "if it wasnt for me you would be out of a job"

and whats even worse is that if you are on benfits you dont have to pay for perscriptions, you get a free busspass, you dont have to pay for the dentist they wilol ive you a suit for interviews and so on and so on

boils my piss

ahh but think of all the extra tax he'll pay once he's a 40% tax payer after holding out for that higher paying job :D

I don't think he's planning to get a job.

Also, his higher education has cost the state an enormous amount:

Two years A-levels

Three years BSc

One years MSc

Three years (I think) PhD

That must be £90K odds worth of tax payers money.

People like him make my blood boil!

My girlfriend, who has just graduated with a 2.1 degree can find a job. She saved up for Uni by herself, got the smallest of student loans and held a 34hr job for the 3 years she was at uni. She was made redundant in June and hasnt found a job since. She told me the LAST thing she'd ever do is sign on. Its a matter of pride and not wanting to associate with the scum in the dole queue! I'm standing by her on this decision even though its hard as I have to pay her rent and some bills.

But when people just take money from the govenment for doing nothing, ARRGHH!!!!!!! No better than the thousands of illeagels in this country.
