Santa Pod results

Sussed it at long last getting these images smaller!!

The First run is against a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Turbo. 742V

Second against Sunny GTiR M624

Third MarcZXT H933

Fourth and fifth SupraGTZ with Hybrid Turbos. K39

As you can see from the bottom of each ticket I won each race (sorry Marc had to get that one in ;-)(1st Finish) but what I don't understand is why on some of them my times are slower than the guy I raced.

Any explanation anybody??

Grant - the reason your times are less even though you crossed the line first is that the reaction time is subtracted from the overall time - so you didn't actually win them all tongue.gif Marc actually beat you on that run smile.gif

Good times though - santa pod has a serious grip problem!!! Also (not pointing fingers though wink.gif) there is no way in the world that doing a burn out on the line with ROAD tyres is gonna give you any advantage - you just can't get the tyre hot enough wink.gif

Yup, no ammount of burnout on street tyres will help?

Your 60 foot time is so relative to a fast 1/4 mile.

Those are good speeds grant. As the pod has always got a bad grip problem, when duff and i were there i was wheel spinning across the line.

Andy can you explain in more detail. Are you saying then that my total time is 15.035 and Marc's is 15.156 or something else. Can you explain the mathmatics a bit more. What constitutes a win 1st past the post or the quickest time?

Thanks

Grant

so does that mean that the clock starts from when you cross the start line and not when the lights change?

I thought part of the skill in drag racing was having quick reactions?

or do they just do that on RWYB because people are not pro's and will probably have crap reaction times??

Paul

Good questions....

The reaction time is the time it takes from when the lights change until you cross the start line. The 1/4 mile time is the time it takes from crossing the start line till when you cross the finish line. Whenever I've been watching it has been the fastest 1/4 time not overall that has won - indicated by the side in questions time board being lit up...

Dunno on OFFICIAL rules though...

Everyones a winner at the end of the day - when we asked last year there was bugger all interest but now it seems we have a bit more. Just need to get mine back on the road now and I'll show you all how to do it properly biggrin.gif Even running stock last year I was still wheel spinning over the finish line @ 100mph biggrin.gif Awesome but weird biggrin.gif

Just noticed also that it says on your ticket under your times "1st finish" which would suggest you were first over the line by the time next to it wink.gif

Yep Grant did beat me, he crossed the line first, the reason he won his reaction time is much better then mine. In the rules of drag racing whoever crosses the line first wins, thats why the best drag drivers have reaction times of 0.6 and below thats what wins races at the end of the day, cos their machines are very similar in performance.

1st Finish indicates a win.

So peeps who is up for the Redline magazine drag racing competition next month?

If I have my car back YES - but I doubt it frown.gif

The reaction time has nothing to do with the actual run, i dont think.

And if it is not braket racing then who ever crosses the line first wins.

Yep the reaction time has no affect on the actual 1/4 mile time. But in actual race situation can make a difference in wining or losing, first past the post rules.

Warren m8 will your car be ready for the Redline event next month?

Bud at the moment im not to sure as im still waiting for them to give me a full run down of what needs to be done.

OK, I assume the comment by andyduff and 300z about tyre smoking was aimed at me. However I would point out that over 4 runs on the same day my best 60ft and 1/4 run was half a second better when I smoked the tyres up a little.

Is Santa Pod bad for grip I assumed that was how strips were? I have never been to North Weald or York so I have nothing to compare the Pod against.

John - not at all m8 - just an observation - every time I go I see people wearing their tyres out for no reason!!!

Best thing to do is to drive AROUND the water on the ground for the burnouts - then you don't have to burn it off wink.gif

Pod has the best grip in the UK afaik but is still crap!!! I think the problem lies in the fact that they use a jet engine to dry a wet track which surely leaves a bit of avgas on the strip - not very good for grip!!!!

No it was nto aimed at anybody, but i found and so did duff find that there was no difference to our times ont he day.

Besides they put trackbite down for the cars with slciks and that substance has the exact opposite effect on road tyres.

Not meant to have a go at anyone at all.

Grant I noticed on your last race you done that Supra up like a kipper good work, one up for the Zed boys, I know from talking to some of the Supra boys they were getting worse 330 ft times then us, seems traction is more of a problem for them. I luvved watching Leons Supra 600 bhp spin his wheels for 2 seconds on the line and still get 12.5 secs for 1/4 at a terminal speed of 125mph!! FFS smile.gif

I was really surprised that I trashed the Supra. He was telling me about all the mods he has had done before we raced and I just thought i'll give it my best shot. The first run he was just catching me up by the time we crossed the line, you can see the margin I beat him by of only .002 seconds. After the race he said he had never dragged before and he thinks he needs some improvement in his technique, which, judging by the way he was catching me up, was plausible.

I thought now he has done his first run he'll be kicking my ass next time round. The second run he was way behind all the way and only closed the gap towards the end, finishing .502 seconds behind me. I reckon though that over 1/2 mile he would have trashed me because he was starting to close the gap. No doubt all of his engine mods making the extra power.

I think he was more surprised than me though. He said something to the effect "I can't believe that I can have all these mods and you can beat me when your car is not that modified".

You just treat your car with TLC, talk to it every day, tuck it up in bed every night, give it some positive talk before the race (you can do it baby, you know you can, it's only a Toyota) and hey presto. Every one's a winner.
