Hey what the roads like in central germany? I got a 300zx sit only 20cm high. Is it ok? Not sure what the weather is like in the winter time, fuel costs, and other stuff. I guess the most important thing is how much it cost to fix it over there, and will i be able to find a garage to work on my car.

Funny that - I lived in Seoul for about three years (mid-90's) and was just on the phone with someone who's lives in Sonbuk-dong.

Anyway - back to your questions. Roads in Germany are fantastic - much better than in Seoul. You'll also appreciate the lack of serious congestion (it used to take me up to two hours to cover the 10 mile distance from Yonhi-dong to the Yongsan US army base). There are loads of heavily modified (ie lowered) cars in Germany so you should be fine on that front as well. As for fuel costs - a lot more expensive than in Seoul but not the highest in Europe (I think the UK holds the record at the moment). Garage wise you should be ok. There are plenty of JDM performance cars on the road in Germany but if you really want to have exceptional service and tuning then take it over to our company in Holland (ie DTA-Motorsport). These guys have loads of German owners come over for regular servicing and major tuning/overhauls. They are Europe's number 1 300ZX specialists and people come from as far a field as Turkey, Croatia and Greece to have their cars looked after. One last thing, the weather in the winter is practically the same as in Seoul. I found Seoul to be colder but Germany gets a lot more wind.

I hope that addresses all your concerns. All the best!

Where about in central Germany are you moving to? As Danny said the roads in Germany are very good. Some smaller towns have cobbled roads but this should not be a problem.

There are very specific laws regarding items you need to carry in your car. You need a first aid kit that meets european standards (local supermarkets sell them quite cheap), warning triangle and if you drive on the autobahns, a 5 litre fuel can. They will shortly be introducing a winter tyre law so when the temp drops below a certain average temp (7 dec Celcius I think) you need winter tyres. Some Laender (counties/states) already require this along with snow chains (southern Germany in the main). I can assure you that they are not cheap for a 300zx.

Fuel costs are slightly lower than in the UK but with an autobahn close by it can get used up pretty quickly (no speed limit - only recommended). Insurance is also slightly more expensive than in the UK (not sure what it is like in Seoul) but I pay 1200 Euros per year at age 39 with 7 years no claims.

Good luck when you get over here and give me a shout when you arrive. If I can help I will.

You might like to have a look around this site http://www.jpoc.net/index.html which hosted by a Brit who has worked and lived there for several years. He is into cars etc., not Zeds tho', but you can also email him with any questions on any topic to do with living and working in Germany. He is a real freindly guy. Good luck.

im probably wrong in saying this, but after having a long chat with a german fellow, who owns a z told me. he has changed the look of his 300zx and made it appear more italian due to the fact they don't like japanese cars in germany :wack: don't know if thats true, this is here say!

Am pretty sure the Germans like their Jap cars - from what I've been told they have the most highly tuned Skylines in Europe!

Incidentally, when I was in Korea it was nearly impossible to import a Japanese car. This dates back to the Japanese-Korean conflict way back when. Don't know how it is these days - I assume the restrictions have been lifted or eased somewhat. A close friend of mine had the only 300ZX (SWB manual) in Korea. He was affiliated with the US Army and as such was given an exemption.

Even though they are all RHD?

Yes, it's not such a big deal over on the continent to be driving a RHD. In fact, when I took my Z over to Holland back in 2002 I was offered a silly amount of money for it by a local dealer. Am still kicking myself for not taking him up on his offer ... could have imported a late model for that kind of money ...

I have been doing small mods intake, stillen exhaust, stage 3 ecu, and brembo brakes. Mine is a NA automatic, but has some serious torque. Still need to install the headers *sigh* which is the hardest thing to replace. Want to do a complete rebuild if i do it though have aout 133000 miles on it. I got the nissan diagnostic software and cable for the Z32s. Might have to stop by and help some people with thier cars. Save them on going to the shop. Been getting help from a guy here in Korea that has the fastest car in Korea right now, skyline pushing 1100bhp no NOS and street tires. Runs around 40 pounds of boost on a twin inline turbo setup. He has been helping me when he can his shop kinda busy. He just serviced an Enzo here just the other week, I'm not realy impressed with the car, it is fast but lacks the comforts of a car. Maclaren would be my choice...hehe.

I might sell or trade my car if i can get my hands on a nice 911 Turbo. I got turbo envy and do not want to do an engine swap. If i did a swap i would put a small block V-8 and supercharge it. Seen it done and goes in pretty nice., not much to change almost bolt in project besides the engine mounts.

This forum has a lot of info alot better than the other one i was at, more usefull info not just chat. I like both so thanks for talking.
