Hey all,

I finally got a 300ZX TT last week and only 2 hours after picking her up the engine died

It's 1 of 3 things, oil leak, water leak or just over heated!

Let me tell you what happend!!

Coming home on the M1 it just lost power forcing me to pull over!

Once i stopped, the engine was smoking like a right ******* (white smoke) so to be on the safe side i called the fire brigade!

Fortunatly she wasn't on fire but once they cooled most of the engine down they had a look at the oil dipstick which was bone dry, this convincing us all it was the oil and therefore the engine was ****ed!

Once a recovery guy came and took it to a local service station, he rechecked the oil to find the it was full of oil?!

He then blammed the water so he started to put some in and it just didn't wanna fill up but at the same time i couldn't see any leaking out! If it is the water then that'll be the head ****ed, right??

I've since had to recharge the battery and i was adviced to try and start her to see if i can hear any rattleing.

I refitted the battery this morning and tried to start it however it's just ticking not firing, it's almost like the starter motor is jammed?!

Can onyone give any surgestions as to what it might be??!!

Ant help would be appriciated, I've hopefully got someone coming to look at it later but i'd like other opinions too!

Thanks all

I've been intouch with "Zed World" which fortunatly arn't to far from me and they said they'll supply and fit fir £1500.

I've told him if he pays the £1000 i'll pay the £500.

He said he'd have a look and check it out but he never agreed with that deal but if he thinks i'll settle for some engine that'll come from Japan then he can **** right off!!!

He never done a receipt and it doesn't say on the eBay listing sold as seen either so is that in my favour????

I thought that if you bought from an auction, any auction, then once you examined and bid on it, then it is yours and no matter what happens after that there is no liability on behalf of the seller. Thats the whole point of auctioning an item, it final.

To put sold as seen would stand the purchaser in even better stead....its utterly illegal. Look on the government website or consumer rights. Oh and if you are taking legal action don't be a plum like me and start doing any work on the car as you'll get nothing from the seller.

Learn from my tragic experience

Rob....Blub

How can a seller be blamed if say an engine blew a week after they sold a car in a private sale? A totally random part failure or such, this is a very big grey area and it's not as simple as just turning up at court and winning...you would have a massive fight on your hands.

Correct. I would take whatever he offers and count myself lucky the guy has no knowledge of the law and a conscience!!

He means he got a quote for the work from zedworld in order to establish the cost of fixing it!

Bought mine thru e-bay mate. I use the word thru as I never bid, just contacted the seller direct and asked him what he'd take in cash. £3,600. Got me a good'un. Could of gone the other way though, I am more than aware of that. Luck o' the draw I guess. Sympathies all round, now lets move forward. Follow up the dudes offer of a replacement engine and see if any of the brothers found herein can hook you up with a good and tended replacement and get your man to pay for it. Butchers Dog time I'm afraid mate. Try not to let this one go. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Mate, it blew about 2 hours after i picked it up not a week!!

Private sale, even worse with an auction. I believe there is no legal come back at all!!

Caveat Emptor rules im afraid. The only thing is to appeal to his sense of responsibility and fairness!!??

Dude grab every penny you can from him before he changes his mind, i got my j-spec 90 tt from a guy on ebay from a so called mechanic, boiled bigtime on the way home, has a blown head gasket due to an ill fitting rad cap (i think) he said "was'nt like that when i sold it, sold as seen" no chance of a penny from him. All i got from him was a lesson learned, DON'T BUY A ZED FROM EBAY UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS PLENTY ABOUT THEM WITH YOU, ALWAYS VIEW BEFORE BIDDING AS THERE'S PLEANTY OF S**T ON THERE.

I wish i'd got mine from someone on here

Sorry to hear of your troubles . I got mine off E-bay , but only after an AA inspection.

the inspection picked up a couple of minor items,(the car is ten years old after all)

Best £60 I,ve spent and only paid £2800 1995 n/a Manual import with 60k Miles.

Good luck with trying to get sorted.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well now that shes been checked it turns out that the head gasket is fooked and not only that but the inlets are full of oil so i think thats possibly the turbos?!

After threatening him with court action he's gave me a £1000 of my money back to cover the costs of a new engine but i said i'd pay for fittin, It was the only way i'd get money out of him!

Still, i'd rather pay £500 than £1500 but i've gotta wait til November before it can be done!!

In the mean time, i've orderd a leather retrim in black and cream, i know what bodykit i want but i'm strugglein with wheels, to many nice sets out there to choose from!!!
