Thinking about fitting Nitrous...who has it on here?

Iv been talking to a mate of mine for a while now about Nitrous oxide and its kinda got me swaying towards getting it fitted..........iv been told a wet kit is the best one to go for.......

Who here has one on a Manual Twin Turbo and what kinda kit and performance increase did they find.............how bad can it be for my engine?

Any information will be helpful.........or even better experiences using the stuff

Cheers

I reckon the cost of the install + the ongoing costs of refilling the nitrous is better spent on permanent power mods. This way you can have the extra power all the time, less likely to cause problems long term, and probably cheaper long term!

all my opinion, though i have no personal experience with NOS

of course NOS on a big engine build at the drag strip in another thing ;)

I was originally gonna buy the Nos for some trick bits but if i spend another couple of £100's i can have it fitted to the car and get some performance out of it aswell.........so it works out for me both ways

Fas

that's why i run two map's 1 for the nos and 1 for the n/a engine.... :)

..

I meant the cost of the NOS itself, how much does a refill cost and how many "hits" do you get from that out of interest?

I see a group buy happeneing over here lol

Im not looking for a major set up.........maybe an extra 50-75bhp jets as i wanna maintain the reliability on my zed and not melt or blow anything up.............obviously things are gonna be a little more stressed but i just wanna find out what strain is it gonna put on my engine

Was thinking about a progressive controller but on 50-75 bhp jets, i dont think it will be much help as im sure the engine can handle that

Iv seen three different kits so far.........Edelbrock, NOS, Nitrous Express (NX)

Just wondering if i do go for one of these kits then what should i go for?

Hi Fas

I would go for the Holly Nos kit (they make a kit tailored for the 300zx :- part No 05117nos).

Also make sure you get a bottle heater this is very impotant as with the Nos and most other kits bottle pressure needs to be 950psi a bottle temp at 85f will give this pressure, this ensures correct nos/fuel mix for a given size of nos/fuel jet.

Mount the nozzles in front of the throttle plates (about 5in is ideal but needs modification to the boost hose, this helps the mix to distribute more evenly in the manifold).

Make sure the fuel pressure can be maintained at full throttle when the nos fuel solenoid is flowing fuel.

A progressive controller is not essential for under 100hp but its your choice.

A stronger clutch is recommended a std one wont last long.

Try not to use the nitrous below 3000rpm. (only use at full throttle).

Very iimportant

Make sure your EGR system is working correctly, if it is not working as it should hot exhaust gas (1100f) can enter the intake, fuel self ignites at about 850f, so if you engage the nitrous when the EGR is faulty a big expolsion in the intake results and will probably blow the intercoolers apart.

A 10lb bottle when you are using jetting for 100bhp will only last 1 min before it needs refilled (about 7 runs on the drag strip).

Refills can be expensive depending where you get it from you are best to get a 50 litre supply and do your own refills it works out a fraction of the cost compared to a retail fill.

hope this info is some use to you

What people do'nt know wo'nt hurt :D

I had NOS on my old TT and i was using the Holly Nos kit, wet with twin foggers, one for each bank, was loads of fun, i fitted it all myself and never had a problem in over 3 years!
