I need to get hold of a replacement indicator stalk. But this is no ordinary indicator stalk!

 

After looking through all the old Zeds down at Ztech we couldn't find one with the same plugs coming out of the back.

Most only have one set of plugs, mine also has a smaller plug coming out of it (this is highlighted with a red square in the pic).

 

If anyone has one of these for sale, or knows what the extra plug thing is for please let me know.

Uk and Jap spec are different. I'm sure a bit of cunning rewiring would fix it though.

I thought all the nissan ones were the same? ie you can grab one off an old micra!

I need to get to the bottom of this as at the moment my main beams are not working and I think the stalk is the problem...

will have a butchers at mine in a mo ;)

sorry mate, bit late but i checked the one i had and it must be uk spec

checked, and i dont have the connection circled (or squared, whichever you like!)

Thanks Andy, but it has been down to Ztech and they checked all the fuses and relays.

We have narrowed it down to either a faulty stalk or a dodgy earth.

So the plan is to try the simple things first.

short out the plug with a bit of wire, if the lights come on, its the switch. u should be able to get the colours of the cores out the diagram

The car did come with running lights though, like the american cars. maybe it is something to do with that? :confused:

I am pretty useless with electrics and wouldn't know which wires do what!

 

I can feel a trip to my auto-sparky coming up! :cry:

have you tried to just use a normal stork without connecting that plug to see if everything works and what dosnt work when that plug disconnected

I have tried several "normal" stalks with no joy.

I will try disconnecting the strange plug tonight and see what doesn't work.

OK, I disconnected the "strange" plug and it did not seem to make any difference!

The indicators, side lights, and dip all still work :confused: What could it possibly be for? :confused:

 

Anyway, I thought I should have a little play around with the thing last night and ended up shorting my indicators! :headvswal hopefully it is just a fuse, but it was too dark to actually look last night!

 

If anyone has any bright ideas please let me know.

As for the indicators, try wiggling the hazard lamp switch, sounds

odd i know, mine stopped working once, and strangely enough,

this cured it! Maybe a long shot, but worth a try.

The indicators are working fine now, just the main beam.

I will be booking in to a garage soon unless someone has a magnificent idea.

I believe the extra connection is for kerb side illumination when turning, if you still have the correct corner indicaters fitted in the bumper then when you indicate when the main lights are on an extra white light in the indicator comes on too, I know some guys here also have that on their zeds but it quite rare.

 

If you cannot find the correct one you could use a stadard one and cut the connectors off and reconnect the relevent cables only.

Your zed is a series 2 thats why its different, series one (j-spec)zeds do not have the extra connection and i dont think later UK zeds have the connection either and i believe your zed is a 92-93 j-spec??

Yes mine is a series 2.

I think that plug could be to do with turning signals as my Zed had a running light setup, with the rear reflector thingys lit up etc.

 

I am starting to think it is more likely to be a faulty earth rather than the indicator stalk.

 

All I know for sure is that I am very confused...

I'd be suprised if it's the stalk too
