Well I just plumbed in a mechanical gauge and started her up. Noise starts just as pressure builds up and it only reaches 50psi from cold. Should be more like 90-100, so 99% sure its the oil pump now!!!!

Just gotta order bits up and do the job now.

Is there any after market oil pumps? engine is quite modified so wondered if it would be worth fitting one.

If so, how much and where from?

TBH mate i wouldn't say that is really low, mine and others i've driven when cold (driving not ideling) are around 60 and when warm it settles down to the middle between 30 and 60, so around the 50ish mark.

If your highly convinced it is the pump, honestly OEM does a perfectly good job for Zeds right up to decent high power, those running really really high power then yeah, aftermarket like Toga, but not from Amz, he can be as much use as a chocolate fireguard sometimes :D

However if i was in your shoes and you can't or don't want to take it to a Z specialist for a proper diagnosis, see if one will travel over to you if you sort him out some cash ?

have you had issue's with amz that you would like to share with us then smithy ?

Only that on the odd couple occassions i have dealt with him, it was like waiting for camels to cross the sahara dessert! after reading just how much stick he gets on TT.net for the same kinda thing, I decided to never use him and I don't :)

cheers

Im comparing with my old Zed, so it should be the same. If its only 50 at idle when cold, its prob gonna be something like 5-10 when warm. Cant run it long enough though, cause I got all the fan/rad etc... out.

Im 99% sure its that. All the noise and pressure build up timing all links to it.

Ill stick with an OEM pump.

Will have to order all the bits up ready for the job!!!

Why if you are not 100% sure its the pump are you ordering parts. Would it not be better to remove the engine/drop the sump and check the pump and then decide whether or not to replace it if thats deffo whats nachered. You could end up replacing the pump and there aint nothing wrong with it. With the costs involved i'd prefer to be 100% sure before I ordered as there aint no point throwing parts/money at the car unless your 100% sure.

Whats the point on going to all the work doing that and not changing it anyway?

Its only around £200 for bits.

Thats your call mate, my point is i'd rather find out whats wrong rather than suspect, nothing more.

Cheers John Crisp

there is also the possibilty of loosing ur oil pressure through ur main bearings on the crank

richard

why dont you drag a priest off the choir boys and get him to do some magic on it,its possesed i tell ya :D
