rough running

Hi,

Today my car started to run really rough. When idling, the revs stay fairly straight for around 10 seconds, then will strugle for about 10 seconds as it slowly sorts itself out. I put datascan on it, and it all looks ok appart from the A/F Base that seems to sit at 100, then for a fraction of a second, flick to 125. As soon as it hits 125 it starts to struggle.

While I'm driving, I stick my foot down and it struggles and back fires, then picks up?

Has anyone got any ideas? I just filled it with the new Shell V-Power gas yesturday if that helps.

Cheers, Bart..

Heres the ide datascan log..

Bump..

Do the basics.

Clean throttle bodies, clean plug contacts on the major sensors, do a ECU diag.

PTU is up the swanny

Have you ever cleaned your injector plugs? You could have a bad connection.

I have recently put some new plugs on them. Maybe one of the joints I suppose.

I have one of the Silver ones. Is that a series 1? I thought that the black ones were series 2.

Was the car just sitting idling during this scan?

Engine looks up to temp during the whole scan so timing starts at +15

but spikes up to around +36 several times.

Suspect the ecu is doing something.

O2's dont change so I suspect you didn't rev the engine.

No idea what the AAC is doing.

Hi mate,

Yeah the engine was up to temperature. I held the revs at 2000 rpm and the O2 sensors moved up and down and the mixture went lean rich lean rich as normal. I'm just wondering if one of my dodgy solders on my new injector connectors may be to blame. I did them a little while ago. Apart from that the car has been running a dream.

Have you looked into a boost leak? Whats you - vacume sat at?

I've just re-soldered all the injector connectors and sealed them (needed doing anyway) but still idle is up and down. when I give it some revs it splutters then picks up. I checked all the vacume hoses, they all look ok. It's really wierd. It was running fine yesturday morning. The only thing that is different is the fuel (V-Power instead of Optimax) :headvswal

I also checked the PTU connections and cleaned them, plus the crank angle sensor and the MAF and the coil packs.

What does the boost guage show when its on tickover?

It shows about -5.5 but the tickover is really bad. If I hold the revs up a tad, it gets about -8.0. If i put my foot on the gas now it splutters and dies.

That, in my opinion is a boost leak.

I did have a small boost leak once before, but ther car was driverble. Now its a nightmare. Just splutters all over the place when I try to accelerate.

I need to drive to Gatwick on Tuesday. I don't think it will make it at this rate.

My post with the title "My first major problem, help!" may enlighten you.

Sorted it at last. It was one plug not firing firstly. After that was sorted it still spluttered when you put your your foot down at 5000 rpm. I think it was in safety boost and it was trying to operate the waste gates, but as I have a boost controller it was getting very confused. I reset the ECU and self learn and now all is well again. THANK GOD...

Cheers,

Bart

You live in the South East? Will we see you at some meets?

Hi Mate,

I've never been to one snce I've had my car (about 2 years). My Zed isn't much to look at unfortunatly. I was a bit green around the gills (about Zeds) when I got hold of it. The car should have been a breaker really, but AndyZ took full advantage of that which I'm not to happy about. After alot of money and time I've got it running pretty good, but the body work abd rust are letting it down. I'm trying not to get put off by this and I'm thinking of buying another newer low milage car, an import, so none of the knowlege I've learned about these cars goes to waste.
