Hi guys and girls

I have just seen what may become my first 300 for sale in my local village garage, it seems very cheap altough it needs a bit of work but I have a couple of questions if that is okay.

Firstly it has had it's engine replaced with a 300 non turbo engine. This is fine by me but I am converned as to how it would affect my insurance as it is no longer a 300zx turbo. Would you people think this would cause problems as it is a modification or as it is reducing the performance would this be okay?

Any ideas???

Secondly this 300, I think, is very cheap but it the work needed worthwhile?

It is on an H plate has 100,000km on the clock although the replacment engine has done less and is up for £1300 as it stands.

It needs the leather sorting out on the drivers seat as this has cracked.

It needs the front bumper paintwork touching up and the drivers side window motor replacing.

The guy at the garage tells me he can get all the bits cheap enough, £80 for a pair of seats, £7 for a window motor etc.

Would you guys say the price is too good to miss, or that there is too much to do on a first effort??

Sorry for the long post.

Any ideas greatly appreciated

Hi mate, and welcome.

While the car is certainly cheap, myself personally, i would run from the car.

you have to ask, if the salesman can obtain these parts too, why hasnt he done it to make the car look and sell better?

also, the car just has a bad sound from what you say mate.

keep looking fella, last thing you want is to buy a 300 and then spent twice that repairing it

out of interest how do you know it was a turbo in the first place?

£1300 seems cheap in my opinion, and with Z's you get what you pay for.

id like to know where hes gonna get front seats for £80 **edit - probably cloth - derrrr!***

your better off getting a good example and paying a little more imho - if the bodywork and interior are both tatty, then the engine and chassis could be in the same condition.

cant see why you would replace a tt lump with an na though? you sure its not just an na anyway?

My thoughts exactly. You say the odometer reads in Km which would point to it being a jap import. The japs had the option of having their cars castrated (turbo's taken away) at the factory.

I don't know to be honest if it ever was a turbo but the engine that is in it now isn't and yes it is an imported model.

The major appeal really is the price because this is around the limit of my budget as my current car would be worth simular and I am looking for a straight swap or there about. I currently have a 1996 MX6 but am thinking the 300 would be a better (more fun) drive not that there is anything wrong with the mx6.

But, thanks for the advice, and it looks like I should probably keep looking.

Mate, to be honest if thats your budget you should try and increase it as these cars are expensive to run. You do not want to buy one which needs a lot of work done or you could easily spend double the purchase price in getting it to drive right.

Welcome to the club mate. I don't want to scare you off buying a 300 but you may not realize that these cars are very expensive to run and when they go wrong it costs ££££'s. I suggest you get some more dollar behind you and buy a tidy example with some extra cash saved for repairs/maintenance. A chap on here called Bird bought a real cheap one and has spent over 5 grand trying to put it right!

run run as fast as you can, don't touch that zed it's probably a can. sorry just finished work and need to releave a little tention.

£1600 is too cheap for a zed. I wouldn't bother getting one yet if you only have that much. Save, save save and get a decent one that you will be able to enjoy.

As others have said, £1600 may seem like a bargain...but your first repair bill could be even higher. Close to £40k when new, and it costs the same as a £40k car to run.
