a quick qestion for all you zed nuts. as some of you know i,m pretty new to the world of zed, and am still looking for the right car, my question is this - should i buy a car with 17 or 19 inch alloys. i want to know what the pros and cons of a zed rollin on large alloys apart from the obvious, which is it will look the mutts nuts....

i do want the car to look fat but will the car suffer in drivabilty and handling with the large 19's

let me know what your experiances are....

cheers

In my opinion 18" are actually the best compromise, have run with 16, 17 18 and 19. 17 was best ride 18 looks better 19 too hard. Thats just my opinion, others may think differently.

Most zed's run on 18". I have 19" and they are suprisingly comfortable.

I was worried about ride quality, but I did'nt need to be.....No harshness at all. I went from 17" to 19" on my TT and noticed no difference ! , and have since put them on my NA which went from stock 16" to 19" and its barely noticable at all.

Handling is better compared to both the stock 16" and previous 17", and that will be down to its 245 wide fronts and 265 wide rears.

I opted for 19's and the ride hasnt changed that much from 17's i use to have. and 19's nicely fill the arch

17in as the price of tyre's for 19in are a bit high.....if you use the car as a daly drive....

...

Don't forget that the bigger Rim size you go, the more your gearing your car up so less acceleration but more top end...

you keep the rolling radius the same by reducing the profile.

My advice is to stick with 17s or 18s.

These cars have a voracious appetite for rear tyres and on a car with such performance potential you do not want cheap tyres - anything less than a premium grade best quality tyre is foolish IMO.

17s look fine, 18s will look better and there will be very little compromise in ride quality. Plus tyres are more readily available in these sizes whilst keeping the prices reasonable.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

The bigger you go the dearer the tyre. I think 18's are more than sufficient.

Yup & more cars have 18s as standard now so tyre prices aren't so bad anymore

Which you are correct in saying but you don't wanna go too lower profile or else the car will be skipping over every bump in the road.. The tyres have no give in them and the results is a car that handles like a bag of poo with bugger all grip... + The extra weight factor of the bigger wheel unless your loaded and got money for magnesium alloys!!!

245/35 front, 265/30 rear to keep same rolling radius as stock - Amazing grip and comfortable ride (no different to my 17's or any zeds with 18's I've driven)

My 19's are heavier than the stock 16" but did'nt feel like much in it between them and my old 17's.

I was worried before I got them...but impressed very happy with them :)

My 17" catch the wheelarch liner at lock but then it is lower than a gnats nuts.
