Worst nightmare come true!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well chaps, Looks like my cambelt may have snapped!!!!!

 

Just wonderering if any of you technical chaps on here rate my chances of fitting a new belt and getting away with it?

 

I was doing about 5 mph when it cut out and there was no grinding/banging/clonking at all but i dont know what sort of valve clearances the zx has?, I know on some cars you can fit a new belt and retime and off you go. :confused:

 

Anyway do you think its worth trying this or just having the car looked at and engine stripped? I want to try the belt first as i see it as ive nothing to lose..

Sorry to say that 99% of times the Valves will be bent as soon as the belt snaps! These are very tight on valve to piston clearance :(

Just as i thought...How much for a rebuild or is it cheaper for a new lump?

Yeah mate......................zedless...Ive gotta drive a fookin ROVER 416 at the mo....Gutted!!!!

A rebuild would be your best bet but you may need to source another pair of heads due to valve and valve guide damage

Billy no mate's reply has made me slightly optimistic as mines an auto and i was just pulling away from a junction so low speed......Trouble is i was cranking it over like mad trying to sort the non start prob out so ive prob shagged it anyway

Mine is an Auto too so mine should have stopped but it was still badly damaged :eek:

Vauxhalls have enough clearance tho mate, Snapped on my old cavalier and just fitted a new belt and away i went

Excuse me??? I would not call 120mph caning it?? maybe 160+ :(

I'll try the belt then and keep fingers crossed...just sourcing one now

i got away with it mine was ok just snaped belt and was around 20mph :hyper:

if your intressed i have a new greddy belt for sale £75 cost £120 new best you can buy :bow:
