Hi All!

As some of you know in the South Central Region i could not make the meet at the weekend just gone due to having to be in Bromley, Kent for the whole Weekend!

Well every thing was great as Usual on the Journey up! but on the way home last night this happened!! :(

i was coming back from Kent on Sunday night and my oil pressure dropped to Zero while i was Driving at 120mph and the Engine started shuddering!! by the time i could safely pull over on the M3 the engine had made a Loud Bang and then sounds of bit's of Metal comming out from under the car then Totally Dead!! Engine Cut out before i could stop so i lost brakes as well.....

Got out of Car!! loads of Oil and Water,Steam every where!! Huge Pool of Oil under the Car!! Tried to turn over engine!! it turned over but would not start! Looked under the Car and the whole of the Under side was covered in oil and there Are Two hole's in the Sump So i had to call out AA recovery and i i did not get home until 2am!!

So iam am a Bit Pi**ed o*f right now as you could imagine.....

I think the Oil pump packed up or an oil line to one of the Turbos burst!!

No more Meets for quite a while and no more Zed and i am Saving to buy a house for just after Christmas!!!

I can do all the work myself of course as i am a Mechanic but this is still a Very Bad thing to happen and will still cost me dearly

Anyone ever had this happen to them??

As i am dazzed about how this happened in the first place!! I only serviced my Zed on Friday and everything was ok!! I even added some Water Wetter!!

After checking the engine today my cooling system only needed a pint to fill it back up but obviously i have no oil due to the 2 holes in the sump!!! but my Dipstick seems to be jammed in the engine as it will not come out!:(

Unlucky buddy. If I can do anything to help then let me know.

Had exactly the same happen to me at Japfest mate. Popped two conrods through the bottom of the engine and all the internals chewed the dipstick up!! I ended up buying Yaseens engine and went for brand new bigger tubs while the whole thing was out. Hope you get it sorted without to much fuss fella ;)

PIcs of engine Damage with number 6 conrod punched through side of Sump!!

Also see if you notice the Loose conrod nut on one of the other Conrods???

This seems to have been the Reason why i lost number six :(

Failing that, think legrath has an engine coming up that has been rebuilt.. no idea if he's sold that or not as its had a bit of interest

I am not impressed with the fact i have 2 conrods with loose nut and one thats came off completely??? Do these Zed engines have a bad reputation for Conrod nuts working loose??? :(

ive never seen a zed rod nut come loose :( they,ve either not been torqed up correct or not at all,ime a firm believer in "thread lock" for vital components like this but anyway i think its safe to say thats one motor un-rebiuldable bud

Dunno whats worse mate....That or my cambelt!!!!!

Looks like we both stuffed!

Yes tell me about it i always use thread lock too!! i swear by it but whoever worked on this car before i owned it didnot as i can see the sump has been off at some point so that tells me its had some sort of bottom end work at some point!!

I am sure i have seen a post on here before about stock TT conrod nuts coming lose before?? :(

OUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headvswal

A sorry sight indeed :headvswal

Yes!! OUCH!! ££££'s Ouch :o

could also be lack of lubrication to one of the rod bearings causing a bearing to spin and press the lower journal off,and in turn smashing through the sump/block

oil pump

low oil

blocked line or feed

sorry to hear about that mate,no matter wether you can build the engine its still a PITA hope you sort it ok

The most amazing thing I find about that is that you tried to start the engine after seeing all the oil and stuff all over the road, incredible.

Have seen this twice.

One engine ended up looking like yours is now, the other one was brought in because the engine sounded somewhat like it had a worn bearing, which in fact was a conrod nut that had worked itself loose..

Flippin eck mate that's bad news. :(

Hope you good sorted out.

Turned it to see if it has seized ;) from the noise i heard it was shot anyway so it would not have made much difference and it started first time so i shut it off very Quickly !

And the cradle is smashed up as well as a sump full of piston from number six.

Not sure if i should take the Engine and box out together or just the engine on it's own?? On a lot of rear wheel drive sports car's it's just as easy to pull the Engine and box together!!

just pull the engine.leave box in bud

and we had a z in a while ago with a holed sump same thing conrod nut come loose and journal said goodbye and let go!IIRC the torque setting in the manual are about 30lb for the journal nuts which on a reciporating engine @whatever rpm constantly seems a crap setting tbh

Glen u actually destroyed 4 out nof 6 conrods and pistons. LOL

there was not alot left in the actual sump and most of the block had gone too.
