Ok.

Last night I was heading home from town, and everything was running ok. I ended up catching up an M3 and we started having a little play. I was in 4th doing about 100/110 mph and getting closers, revs were around 6k. I was just about to overtake him and change into 5th as I passed but due to traffic comming the other way I couldnt, but because I was close to him I couldn't just change gear so I just let off the accelerator pedel which caused the car to jolt. Carried on after this and no problem.

After this happened I started driving normally in order for the car to cool down, before it got parked away, but everytime I slowed down in gear it became very difficult to control the clutch, but was still fine when accelerating.

Parked up outside my garage to open it, and noticed that the revs kept dropping almost to a stall, then back up again (I know this as hunting) I also noticed that my standard boost guage that sits at -12 most of the time was sat around -4. I parked the car in the garage and left it as it was dark, and have been thinking about the problem since.

I have a few ideas, but want to hear from you guys.

Firstly I think it may have blown a boost pipe?

Or

Idle control valve is shot?

Or

Loose plug somewhere?

Any other ideas? Any guys with datascan about today?

Thanks in advance for your help.

More than likely you have blown a boost pipe. The reason being that the vac level is down to -4, however when I blew a pipe the symptoms were a lot more severe.

No other advances on this?

Right. I have just been round and had a look at the car. It became apparent very quickly that it was a boost leak as you could hear the hissing for the 5 seconds the car was running before it cut out. Had a look around the engine bay and noticed a bolt holding the rail on over the rear coil packs was missing. Covered the hole with my finger and the car ran sweet as a nut again.

All I need to do is get a new bolt, plug it in and I am away again! Panic over. Thanks for your advice ChrisP.

Well I went to remove another bolt in order to find one in the same size, and came accross my missing one balanced on the black bar that goes above the engine.

This car loves me.
