I'm sure everyone's seen the news this morning or heard it on the radio on the way into work.

A terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight from the UK to the US has been disrupted.

I'm off to the States next weekend and to say I'm somewhat apprehensive, is a bit of an under statement.

Thats a bit full on, I've havn't seen the news so didn't know about it. Hopefully the disruption will have calmed by the time you go. Its quite a big measure to have actually banned hand luggage and advise passengers to delay their flights until next week.

I'm not in the least bit concerned about the disruption. If it ensures safety, then so be it.

There were clues of stuff going on earlier in the week with the attempted break-ins at Prestwick Airport.

That was human rights activists though wasn't it?...or was it Protesters about military equipment being flown out of there to the middle east? I forget now.

Just glad I'm not planning on flying anywhere seen.

Yeah, I think you're right now. It's certainly one of the airports with lower security though.

Due to the attempted terror attacks today on a flight to America, travel arrangements when flying has been changed:

> Hand luggage is not allowed – it must be put into the hold

> Nothing allowed in pockets including wallets. All small valueables must be put into a see-through plastic bag

> No drinks/liquids of any type allowed

> Shoes will be x-rayed

Dude, I've already posted the link in the first post! LOL

and the government still leave the flood gates open for immigrants.what does it take before they realise. aarrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhh.this government are ruining the country in every way possible. :headvswal

My bros coming back from the states next week, we're a little worried for him to say the least especially as he has an internal flight from la to washington first :(

Dont worry, safest time to fly is NOW and in the near future. Any plans people have to blow stuff up is on hold untill security dies downagain in a few weeks.

I'm not wondering if the counter attacks go along the lines of the following.

Ok, so their main plan may have been foiled. But Heathrow and Gatwick are now at a standstill....because of that, the amount of people inside the airports is some 3 times what it should be. I'm sure the terrorist organisation would have 2nd guessed this had their plan A been foiled. What's to say now, that because of this, they'll send suicide bombers into these now jam-packed airports.

Doesn't bare thinking about.

OR!

Cause as much worldwide disruption as possible without even letting off one bomb?

Although I cant see them beng satisfied if not even one infidel gets killed? :xxx:

There's bound to be a second attack for them. If they're clever enough to bomb the tubes, etc they'll have a second line of attack which no-one will be expecting

I'm thinking about a week or just a weekend in New York as the exchange rate's so good - $1.91 to £1.

I wouldn't be put off in the slightest by this.

It's generally the roads that kill people on holiday. Sharks, terrorists, tropical diseases are hyped but a very small threat.

Depends how long that exchange rate remains because of this threat.

you cant get much more hyped than the government putting the country on critical alert

the last time we were on critical alert was world war 2

critical alert means there is an iminent threat of attack
