Hi all, new member here, great site.

I have recently purchased a 300zx and I am really impressed with them, they look attractive and they sound great and the performance is great too.

I have one question though, the aerial doesn't work, i'm assuming it's an automatic one but i'm replacing the stereo in it anyway, just wondered if you lot had any advice while the console is out? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi - This seems a common problem with all electric aerials, not least those fitted to the Z. My advice is to buy a second hand one (as I have done) as you can pick them up from this site, the ZClub site or eBay from £20 to £30. You can buy a new repair kit from traders here also but they are about £45 and are a messy nightmare to fit. If you need help with fitting the aerial I found the following very helpful -

go to zhome.com - scroll to the bottom of the 'section descriptions' on the left of the home page - look under 'documents' and click on 'How To's - for the 90+ Z's' and under 'accessories' click on 'How someone... : repaired/replaced their Power Antenna'

I found this an invaluable instruction sheet when I replaced my aerial and there are many more items of value on that site - why not explore?

Welcome to the club and good luck with your aerial.

Thanks for the reply, Dave. That's the least of my worries for now, is there a quick fix for installing a new headset? The connections are different, tried buying adaptors but didn't have any because it's an import

It should have the same connectors as the UK car? I just bought the autoleads adaptor from my local car hi-fi store.

I have a UK spec but IIRC I needed to splice another live to feed the built in amp for the rear speakers.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

By the way, the aerial problem could be the relay. Mine didn't work properly when I got my ZX; found it was the relay - a small opaque/white ciggie box thing inside the o/s rear wheel arch.

Bought one from AndyZ and it's worked perfectly for the last 3 years

Thanks Richard, I won't really have time to do it until the weekend, i'll have a look in the local shop, maybe Halfords wasn't the best place to look, anyway, i'll sort the radio out then sort the aerial out, thanks for the help.

p.s there was another thing, the clear plastic strip along the lights and tailgate, has seen better days, where would be the best place to get one?

Hi,

My Aerial wasn't working either when I got my car, but when I got the Nissan-ISO connectors (from Ebay i think) and a new stereo, it started working fine.

sonix.

If you find that the aerial is faulty and needs to be replaced, do not be tempted by those Ebay ones from the US at £25 or so. I bought and spent days pissing about checking everything trying to get it to work, without success. Bought a secondhand proper job and it went straight away. You could by my US one for say a £10.

mine was an import and didn't need any adapters because the connections were standard ISO (i think that's what they're called) blocks. I did buy an adapter for the leccy aerial though, but I've heard you can adapt the original plug by cutting one of the prongs off?
