i know this has probably been done to death, but was looking at some old mags earlier and noticed that compared with the more obvious "supercars" of its day the z32 stands up pretty well.

for instance look at these stats:

Lamborghini Diablo 0-60 4.3secs

Lamborghini Countach 0-60 4.9secs

Lotus Esprit turbo 0-60 4.9 secs

Honda NSX 0-60 5.2 secs

Porsche 911turbo 0-60 5.3secs

Nissan 300ZX TT 0-60 5.5secs

Ferrari 308 GTS 0-60 5.5secs

Ferrari 348 tb 0-60 5.6secs

Ferrari testarossa 0-60 5.7secs

Porsche 944turbo 0-60 5.7secs

be interesting how many secs it is off the modern day versions of the above cars.

im not sure myself if it could be classed as a "supercar" becuase of the price tag, maybe if Nissan had put an extra £50k on top of the £35k than it would have been.

but it performs like a "supercar" and looks like a "supercar" so 2 out of 3 aint bad, so for now i think il say its a definate supercar of the 90s at least.

what you reckon.

cheers

Si

as the guy on the old top gear review said, they are classed as supercars the only thing is " if they were made in britain, germany or italy then you could triple the value, all of the cars have one defective part, the nissan badge"

i cant be ar5ed to quote him word for word but thats the jist of it

all comes down to label at the endo the day, cheap jeans are the same quality as designer but at the end of the day peeps wanna be seen in the gooduns

In my book on supercars the 300ZX is at the top of the lower 3rd of the list, along with the RX7. Any car that is above a certain top speed and carries a certain 0.60 and 0.100 timing is classed as a Supercar. It's not all to do with price tag.

In 1989 the 300zx was £36K and the 911 of the time was a similar price and no where near as quick, but speed and power arn't what make a super car and to be honest as much as I love my Z it really isn't a supercar. If you drive one you'd know the difference.

My view on the badge is, Honda is no more prestigeous than Nissan and the managed to get a true "supercar"(IMO) with the NSX by giving it £50-£60k price tag, just makes the car a little more exclusive.

I wouldn't say the 300 is in the same league as the NSX ? no offence like :) the NSX is still highly desirable in Japan even now (hence the difficulty to get them here) whereas the 300 has been left in the shadows somewhat (but lucky us as we get them lots cheaper then :) )

I dont think people appreciate how good a car the zed is anywhere near as much as they should, but unfortunately there's a reason the zed is in the £2-5k price range, skylines £6-35k plus and NSX £15k-big bucks ranges, and its due to a lot more than 0-60 figures.

a 1990 Porsche 911 or a 1990 Ferrari 348 tb drives no diferent to 300zx only diference is its a Z on the steering wheel not a pranceing horse! its more the fact your driving a "Porsche" or a "Ferrari" that makes it diferent!

sorry but a Z cant be put in the same category as a Ferrari or a Lambo etc, they only similarities the three share are that they are cars. Ferarri etc have built up a reputation and desirability, performance wise Zeds are spot on but the do not carry the Kudos of the other two and in all honesty do not have the same wow factor. its all about labelling and branding at the end of the day, Nissans are mass produced. Supercars are not made for the public but for the elite few that can afford them and such is reflected in the styling and desirability

No niether would i, but if the Z had a higher price tag like the NSX it would have been more desirable because not as many people would have had one, the zeds only .3 of a sec behind it in the 0-60 stakes. so its not exactly been left behind.

so suposeing Ferrari made the Z everything the same, same styling, same 3l V6 twin turbo but it had a pranceing horse on the front and said Ferrari on the engine, would it then be a real supercar.

The zed can't really tell myself. Caterhams and lotus Elise are fast but are they supercars? I think not?

Yeah thats fine but we dont all have knightrider cars..... :x:   :slap:

If you drive a car that in every way can out perform a "supercar" then surely that car is also a "supercar"? If not then what is it?
