twice in one night!!! :(

1st was a Sierra, sounded lovely, really high pitched exhaust on it.

LIME green though :( But it was fast, Had the Cossie and NOS signs on the back but unsure as to whether it had either. Bloody fast though - pulling away I could pull up behind it and close the gap but it wasnt easy - at higher speeds It was pretty hard to close gap after overtaking etc.

2nd one was a rover 220 Turbo

Sat behind me at lights, revving - one thing I noticed was at low revs I was hearing his dump valves - mine you have to rev to about 3-4K and jump off to hear em but his was dumping at about 1500rpm?????

Bloody loud they were too

Set off from lights and put about 2 cars distance in between us then couldnt shift him. Just snitched it into fourth before we ran out of road.

Thats modded cars for you mate! you can make most cars go very very fast if you do some heavy modding with them. Looks like the rover and sierra boys were out 'big game hunting'! We do it with Porshes, they do it with Zeds. Mark of respect if you think about it! :)

Yep and them Rovers have low down torque, I know I've owned/driven a few.

everyone does it to a certain extent, its all in good fun i think...

i had a lad in a 645 beemer actually slow down for me last week as i came onto a dual carriageway off a slip road...

he probably wishes he never now tho as i played his game and surprisingly did him quite easily.. his lady friend wasnt very happy tho... bless, her fellas big flash car being humiliated by a 16 year old "RED THING"..

nothing to be ashamed of mate, i know of many unlikely lookin cars that'd beat the majority of zeds on here, its no big deal, if they beat u get em to pull over and have a butchers at their motors, thats what i try and do.. lol..

Hot weather's killed my performance totally. Boosting about 6PSi at the moment and took longer than expected to see a 318 BMW dissapear from my rear screen last week.

Soulds like Safety mode , Boost leak or Detting

You should'nt be detting on Optimax in this heat on stock boost, unless there is something wrong.

Nope, it's doing neither. It's just been very hot lately. Boosts to almost 7 when the weather cools down in the evening.

Airmass is a lot less and regardless of what fuel you use, you'll get a drop in performance.

It's boosting when hot, to the first line before the 7....not sure if that's 6 or what.

I mentioned fuel, becuase it affects detonation, which would put ecu into safety mode, lowering boost.

You should not be getting a 2-3 psi drop in this heat.

First line before the 7 (on a Import)...is normal boost. Ignore the stock gauge, its useless.

Still get a loose in performance in this heat. The gauge although inaccurate will still show a lesser reading if boost is lower.

Mine is on stock boost. Which is why when it cools, it'll boost to almost 7. I'm only getting a drop of about 1 - 1.5PSi when it's 30 odd degress.

I use 97ron.

true, looks wise I think we win hands down.

Rarity wise - again hands down

and if the road was longer to get into the higher gears it might have been a different story.

Still cant work out how I heard his dump valves sl low down tho - really revved it low at lights and an almighty woosh he time he revved. Didnt think it was possible to develop boost at low rpm like that - either that or he ahd one of them daft speakers that means it wasnt a turbo :)

God, that'd make mine even slower.....

His turbo will be smaller than yours, this means that it spools up quicker and doesn't need as much gases to make it spin, makeing boost at lower revs.

i got blasted away in the wet by a saab 9000 older style.

he must have balls of steel as we aproached roundabout!

i just couldnt shake it off....new found respect for old saabs!! lol

nope, it actually has a slightly larger turbo (t25). Small engined, single turbo cars have bigger turbos and more lag than the Zed's twin turbo setup (T22 hybrid).

Did you know that they stopped making the Rover coupe turbo because it was unstable at high speeds. The Z doesn’t have that problem.

The Z is a heavy car too (big V6).

There’s not many keep up with me unless in the rain, but that’s because I like my car and want to keep it in one piece.

Don’t be disheartened they still great cars.

Do you have many mods?

Unorthodox pulley, decatt & full stainless exhaust, apexi intake, boost raised to 15psi, aggressive remap chip, ACT Heavy duty clutch, lots of optimax

Car runs 0-60 @ 4.78 (G-Force & Datascan - several runs) and has no ECU faults registered. Gonna have to get bigger intercoolers, 555's then larger tubs :)

Your car doesnt sound like no slouch, I guess you happenned to bump into 2 budget 4-pot bangers that have aggressive modifications done to them, whilst yours is just bolt-on modifications such as exhaust, also with extra boost.

Also try to get on the gas pedal atleast as soon as your opponent - it makes all the difference. :)

I had a rover 620ti, they are 197bhp as standard and only 1200kgs. He probably had a moto build dump valve like i did. They bolt straight onto the t25 and are loads louder than both my hks dv's together! The rover was quick, would keep up with scoobys between about 20 and 100mph, I kept the looks standard so looked like a grandad car and i used to go bmw and boxster hunting all the time! The lsd on the front wheel drive worked well but it got a bit boring after a while!

The 9000 turbos were very rapid in some guises - mid-range performance of the top end model was in league with 911

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i drove a new shape 900turbo, it went like shit off a stick but way to much power for front wheel drive, it felt like it would fling me into the nearest hedge!

would still quite like one as my 2nd car tho!

I am actually starting to get bored with racing because I have never lost. I actually want to lose a race or come up against something that will give me a run for my money, I have gone against lost of high performance cars including Skylines etc.
