HELP! - someone has been trying to steal my car

Hi guys,

Someone tried to steal my car about a month ago and failed, now the logbook and keys have been stolen from my house. Luckily my car is parked at a friends house at the moment, but I don't know what to do! I'm going to put a clamp on it while its waiting there, but what can I do to get back into my car? I haven't got a spare set of keys :-(

I assume that all I need to do to get a new logbook is contact the DVLA, but how do I go about getting into the car without the keys?

Can I order a replacement set?

Some people really suck :-(

John

My thoughts would be someone may be trying to clone your car using your details on a stolen car. But I would defo remove the ecu from yours for a while to be on the safe side.No ecu no start engine! could be towed etc though DOH!!

Tell your insurance company too as they all are part of a data base now and I think they can check if some one try`s to insure another zed using your details.

Sorry to hear about your troubles mate. I don't know how you'd go about getting a new set of keys unless you have the original codes that are on the keys ... Also, Jeff, the man hasn't got keys to get into the car, so how can he remove the ECU ... wink.gif

Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you but I'd either clamp the car where it is currently parked or remove the wheels and put it up on axle stands until you've figured out a way into the car.

Good luck.

Danny

I would contact the DVLA first, and see about getting the registration changed.

They will need some proof I guess, like MOT, and your driving license.

I would also speak with the Police and see what they recommend. I hope you reported the break in because you would then get a Police Record number as well.

On the keys, you will need to speak with Nissan, but you may have to get a new set of keys and locks. This should be paid for by your house Insurance.

I hope this helps??

Leigh.

If the car is UK then you can order a new set of keys using the chassis number - this will be on the MOT cert or DVLA will be able to tell you. If its an import then I'm not sure if Nissan UK will supply them....

HTH,

CheerZ,

I got a copy key for my J import from my Mandela - didn't appear to be a problem for them.

The DVLA is shit. According to them my car doesnt exist.

There is no car with my number plate on, even though the DVLA gave me my number a few months ago.

If I was you, get a key to get in the car and then change the locks on it asap.

I have on of those full disc locks on my car, get one and anything else that can go on you car to make it harder, wheel clamp, or maybe get a cheap proximity alarm so if any one comes near it, it will sound.

Do you have an alarm on it? Did they take an alarm fob too? If so get incontact with you alarm manufacturer, they may be able to change the frequency of the alarm.

Stuart

all is sorted sorry peeps i'll keep my shady tips a secret in future

If your insurance covers you for glass just break a window and get it sorted FOC if all else fails. I think the AA/RAC can get you into your car if you've lost your key?

Informing your insurance of attempted theft may have nasty consequences on renewal knowing what they're like.

Once in, take the ECU out as Jeff said and they will sit for ages wondering why it won't start.

Once in you should be able to get a key from the chassis number or possibly the lock barrel?

Do you have the details of the previous owner? They may have the old spare key. I have 2 keys from cars I've sold and just couldn't find at the time. Worth a try.

I'd get a tracker fitted ASAP then and it will bring your insurance down too.

Am I the only one who would rather see Tooley's advice given via personal email rather than on the forum for anyone to see? There's enough people damaging our cars without being given hints and tips on how to steal them without damaging them.

i know what you mean but to do this takes time and is not the preferred car thiefs choice as it sets the alarm off if you have a decent alarm and now you know about this you can act against it as i have done with my latch

Aha - so how do you do that then Mr Tooley?

any car theif targeting a Z will know how to get in to it, little TWOCers can get into anything,

infact find a fiesta, you can actually pull the lock with parts that you take off of the car to get to the lock, takes 15seconds

sorry peeps ive tried to delete the message but it wont let me as im not an admin can whoever the admin is please feel free to delete the message.....once again i didnt mean to cause any grief i just wanted to help the guy out

doh i really should learn to use my pc to its full potential and not just for gaming and 300 trivia

Nice one Mr Tooley, sir.

Can you let us know how to defeat the nifty trick you described? Even though I've got an immobiliser I get paranoid....

Gio - easy way to stop thieves nicking your car :

1) Replace front door with garage door

2) Install sheet metal floor in front room

3) Drive Zed inside at night

4) Remove ECU

5) Remove steering wheel and all 4 wheels

6) Install hooge great furking magnet in Zed

7) Turn on magnet to attach Zed to floor

8) Install 8 cameras trained on Zed from all angles

9) Plug Zed body into electrical power supply to deliver enough zapping power to render any would-be thief boneless in .6 of a second

10) Alarm and Immobilise Zed.

11) Wire house to different power supply to fry any thieves from the outside too.

12) Insulate self and sleep in Zed with shotgun, axe and anything else readily available as a weapon.

If that's the easy way, christ only knows (or should that be Thor?) what the hard way's like! biggrin.gif

Just leave a couple nelson invoices on the car, anyone reading them would avoid the car completely.

Get Craig to create a

sticker to replace the 300zx.co.uk ones and no one would come within a mile of the car.

IMO, FWIH etc... biggrin.gif
