Ok, I was talking to a mate of mine yesterday, who professes to know a lot about jap cars, and he was telling me that a standard mr2 turbo is quicker than my Z......please tell me this is not true! I don't know if he was trying to wind me up, but he did. If a poxy mr2 is quicker than the mighty Z then I think I may end it right now, come on ladies and gentlemen you have the opportunity to save the life of a fellow Z owner, just say it ain't so!!!

It is quicker to about 90'ish, then the z will reel it in.

It's a completely different car really, quite hard

to compare the two of them.

Rev2 mr2 tubby = 225 bhp

Rev3 mr2 tubby = 245 bhp

You only have to take into account the power to weight

ratio, to understand why.

I have owned both, and can safely say the 2 will beat a z

upto 90'ish. Once they have been modified, then it's a

different story.

'Allegedly' there's an mr2 turbo in america with 800 rwhp!!

the MR2 tubby is a quick car! 0-60 time is not far off a stock zed. after that the zed would pull ahead

mr2 tubby would almost certainly beat you to 60 yes. 300zx is a lard arse you have to remember ;)

Something I've really started to realise lately is that times are all pub talk value and not much else. The Zed was in the drivers top 10 cars ever for years, I don't think the Mr2 was. There's not much that will touch a Zed in terms of total pleasure to drive on the road, regardless of whats faster, slower or whatever.

agreed royal, too much looking at the millisecond differences on stock straight line measurements... the overall experience of a zed is why it was japans first supercar.

i just go off experiences, ive wasted a couple of mr2's

but then again my car seems to be quicker than some zeds with more mods than mine

strange eh!

ffs and your getting so stressed 'cos??????????

did you stamp your feet at him

btw i know a lot about chrimbo and father christmas aint real

yes guys my bf mate has an mr2 turbo and we are forever having this disagreement, yeah yeah quicker at set off but lets be honest its a birds car (us lady z drivers excluded) , i swear its got a compartment for hairdressers to put their scissors in. wheres the testosterone??? whers the road presence?

well ive owned both infact i own a mr2 turbo at the minute and goin to get in hot water here i can tell, a mr2 turbo will fight off a 300zx tt upto about 80 - 90 mph then 300 will waste it, its the old power to weight mr2 weighs like a crisp bag 300 abit lardy.

At the end of the day mr2 is 2.0 litre single turbo 300zx is 3.0 litre twin turbo so zed is winner on top end no matter also zed got more road presence. Heres where i get in hot doo doo now mr2 tubby will out handle a zed for sure Also at the end of day BOTH cars JAP.RWD,TURBO,T TOP mr2 cheaper to run and just as much fun!

hhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm apart from when mr2 breaks down, which seems to be quite frequent from what i can gather

well said!!

and ive pasted loads of boy racer mr2s at the lights, reving till there bonnets are glowing red!!! maybe ive more under my bonnet than i realised

they are quick but i look at his its got the same kit on as mine in red with more vinyl stuck to it than jimmy savilles record collection! it just does not look the part even though it is!

0-60 in both cars is virtually the same - around 5.5 seconds. The stock MR2 turbo is not sufficiently quick enough to pull out any real advantage up to this speed and TBH it would be down to driver ability. However rolling starts the ZX will have it beaten down to better BHP and torque. ZX will be better 0-100 though.

And as stated above, once above 80mph or so then the ZX will show the MR2 a clean set of tail pipes.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

One action rip it all out for weight loss....lol

I'm afraid tis true!-having just got shot of the wifes MR2 tubby,I can honestly say it would kill a Z from the lights!

Handle like a slot car too! :)

not sure why everyone says it will thrash the zed off the lights (Perhaps for the first 10ft or so off the lights depending on driver skill/luck)...the 0-60 acceleration times are about the same for both cars, and 0-100 the zed is quicker.

They do feel a lot quicker though

OK .....!!!!...NO NO no he is pulling your leg bud ...he just want's you to bite....

.. my Zed will KILL a mr poo all day long ....... :)

.

The MR2 tubby is a bit quicker to 80ish and would

outhandle a zed in the twisties but on a long straight

road the zed would dissapear. Also MR2s are very reliable

and the standard internals are good for 400 bhp.

All the ones you have blown away are probably NAs

there is cars faster than our z's we got to addmit it we tend to think the z is invincible it aint we own z's coz we like the car and they do look the part if there wasnt faster cars why are we all trying to make ours faster?

..fair play bud ..BUT if you drive a Zed to the max as i do ....

most mr2 guy's don't ......it's all in the driving of the car ...

and in the set-up...

but don't get me wrong ,,,,mr2's are good little GO-KART's,,but if you want a REAL car then you go for a Zed...........

..

The 245bhp turbos may well be quicker to 60 than a standard TT, but I don't think the earlier turbos are. No idea what proportion of MR2 Turbos in the UK are the 94+ 245bhp versions though.
