'NISSAN' lettering on calipers, what colour should it be?

Right then, slowly cleaning up all the underneath. Have managed to restore the factory finish on the rear calipers. Just the fronts to do, these will take a bit more work I think, but they are in nice condition anyway.

What I want to know is, what colour should the NISSAN lettering be on the sides of the calipers? Is it white or a bright silver?

Going to get some Humbrol Enamel paint and an ultra fine brush and will redo the lettering so that it looks mint.

should be polish metal. which then goes powdery and pitted for that real authentic look.

The main part of the caliper, yes! LOL, but the lettering is painted from the factory.

Mine is a lovely battleship grey now. But the lettery has faided a bit.

It should be engraved metal. Clean it up with a wire brush then spray laquer will keep it new looking for years. I'm assuming that you are talking alloy calipers.

Good luck

Jack

The iron calipers (93 onwards I think) had same colour lettering as the caliper.

The earlier calipers (most popular) were dark grey and the lettering was lighter, although Im unsure if the lettering is white/silver or just bare metal.

Lettering on mine, the alloy ones, was bare (or lacquered) metal. I suspect the cast iron ones were the same colour all over.

Yeah the calipers are alloy. Certainly not cast iron ones. Which is strange since mine's a 91....well, lease it looks that way anyway. Iron calipers corrode to a certain extent once the electroplating has cracked off.

Mine have no lacquer on them, but the lettering which is almost embossed (raised) with a light pattern on it. It looks a silvery/white, but where the lacquer on that has lifted, it's faided somewhat.

Like this, colour looks a bit wierd in the late evening sunlight though ...

Yeah that's them. My front ones are a little cleaner, but still have the browny residue on them that I need to scrub off with alloy wheel cleaner before attacking them with the autosol....then I'll do the lettering.

Paint the whole thing then go over the NISSAN with some wet and dry and a block?

Thats what ive done :)

copyright chunk 2006! :)

opps, edited my post now...Alloy is pre 93'ish , Iron is 93'ish onwards

they are plain alloy metal silver then laquered as origional , if they look white its because the alloy has corroded and powdered ...a good wire brushing then some clear laquer will do the job nicely ....

Are you sure?? It's deffinately looks like a white paint. My calipers have no corrosion on them anyway.

Just finished doing mine. Painted red with high temp caliper paint, then sanded the lettering back to metal with a block. Fitted brembo disks and new pads. looks the nuts for the 100 quid it cost me for the disks, pads and paint!

on my '91 TT, the calipers are black with silver lettering, lacquered bare metal. they look original, i don't think they've been re-painted.

the marks you can see on the letters are machine marks.

You thought I was Joking.

yep bare laquered metal, mine had gone white and flaked off. Personally though I think they would look good with a fine red outline on the letters.

Do uk spec cars have alloy calipers i thought it was just JDM cars that had them.

Yep UK are alloy but a little bigger and smoother. Wether the piston displacement is bigger or not I couldn't say

I've gone and done mine white. Red looks good on some, but I want to keep colours to a minimum on mine. I find that's the best way to make something easier on the eye.
