Guys, Can I have your opinions on the following please?

I have a '90 Import TT Auto, and well, I find the oil pressure to be quite low on it.

what is considered normal??

on a run, it may go up to about 3.5KG/Cm2 - however after an hour run (i commute a lot)

it idles at 0.5 - 0.7KG/CM2

I know the oil is ok, as i just change the oil and put magnatec in there.

is this pressure ok, and if not, what should i be getting?

the gauge & sender are pretty crap TBH, may just be incorrectly reading

If your going by the gauge on the dash then your bound to get innacurate readings mate they are cack! So long as the dipstick reads ok.

Why not do what most people do and get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. The difference between the 2 gauges is scary! Sometimes the dash pressure reads 0.5 bar when the aftermarket reads 2 - 3 bar!!

The gauges are notoriously rubbish mate. They often don't show the correct readings. Also the pressure will change depending on whether you are driving hard or at idle. So long as its pulling ok and isn't doing anything out of character or losing oil then I wouldn't worry too much. Especially as you are using it to commute you should get to know what the car does. Its much better than using once in a blue moon and not being sure if its ok.

A good thing to do would be to get an aftermarket pressure gauge fitted? I got an aftermarket one fitter but it didn't get plumbed in due to needing a sender unit. In the end I got to know the engine so well I wasn't that bothered and still havn't done it. It is a new engine though.

thank you - i havent had the car for long, but the engine runs sweet as a nut, it doesnt burn any at all, and theres no leak at all, from the engine, or the gearbox. I knew most jap turbo cars run on a low ressure anyway, but from what you say, as long as the guage is doing something (ie not dropping to 0, or 8 bar) i have sweet fa to worry about :)
