Whats the best way to race a 4-wheel drive Impreza STI?

There is this guy who wants to race me at 1/4 of a mile distance.

I dont thing its a good idea to start from stop. Right!! He will get ahead i guess and maybe I wont pass him at 400 meters.

I am driving a STAGE III TT Auto (Level10 Stall Converter 3000RPMS) and I thing If I hit it at 40Km it will be much better. What u think???

There are going to be plenty of people and I dont want to loose. This guy has never been bitten cause he has done some serious mods to his cars.

But If trust my Blitz-ID which sais 12.1 sec at 1/4 mile and 4.1sec (0..100)

and my Blitz Multi Speed Turbo Timer 11.6 sec at 1/4 mile

Then he should be piece of cake. But I am afraid those times are not accurate.

Race is scheduled on Sunday night at 23:00.

Any ideas? I have the option to choose how we start cause I am rear wheel and he is 4-wheel. But distance is 400 meters.

Thanks for any advice

Do like craig and i just did biggrin.gif Rollin in 3rd. It was close but we had him.

I would have thought rollin' start would be better! He'll toast you off a standing start with 4x4 I reckon regardless of how much bhp you'got mate! IMHO wink.gif

Ask him to race you at a rolling start of 60mph,It wont be a race at all wink.gifHe will just be a tiny spec in your rear veiw mirror, been there done it,off the mark he will cane you 4x4 and the weight advantage he has got over you, no match for a Z wink.gif.

Depends how many times you wanna race him, if you do standing starts, sooner or later his gearbox or diffs will explode. I dont know why people who drive 4x4 do standing starts, they are murder. But dont forget, he isnt geared for high speeds, but rolling start is porbably best. Dont forget, if you are racing, to have left foot on brakes and keep boost high accelerating. This is the best way to race with turbos, but you may prematyrely shag your brakes, but you wanna race so you may prematurely shag your engine to.

HEhehe, in all seriousness though, rolling start is best for you, and keep the boost on.

Hi Nitropow. My advice is rolling start. Subarus have got good standing start grip. No wheelspin at all. I've been in one. Ay3388 had a good idea. Hold the engine back with brakes, open throttle more to maintain 40ks, then let off brakes and floor throttle. Less lag that way, I used to do it in my 200sx.

Very best of luck to you my friend!!!!

Its obvious why he wants to race you on his terms. tell him you want a second race from a rolling 80 mph and see what he says.

having said all this, if your running the 1/4mile in the times you say, then he just does not stand a chance full stop. An sti does not run low 12 second 1/4miles period.

An person that owns an sti, with the money and inclination can get his car to do them 1/4 times, dont forget the times mentioned for the zx were not properly timed and i'll bet they could be a lot out.

Why someone would want to spend so much money on a scobby is anyones guess. but there are some fast ones out there.

'The Guy' apparently has serious mods and hasnt lost yet...so he may have spent a lot of money...you can extract a lot of power if you wish, as you should know

whether he has or not is another matter, maybe a list of mods he has would better gauge the situation

Zedster, ROFL you got the right atitude!!!!!

A man with a scooby could not cope with a big cock and a fast car... Must be small if he's got a practical car, LOL

As Warren said "having said all this, if your running the 1/4mile in the times you say, then he just does not stand a chance full stop. An sti does not run low 12 second 1/4miles period."

I went past an STi like it was standing still at 16psi the other week. We were doing about 40 at the time but seemed like we were hardly moving.

He would have to have spent some SERIOUS cash to get away from you...

The noise from my Zorsts nearly shattered his windows! ROFL

Be fair and say you'll do a standing start and also from 50 ish into the sunset! ROFL

I bet you wip his ass both ways.

Don't forget he may be desperate...

Fill up with Shell Optimax, a dose of octane booster and turn the boost up further than normal... Never failed for me!

17psi with no audible detonation and that is quick! Shame my auto box seems to be slipping now at full whack in the dry.....

I wish I had a pipe and slippers, it would be much cheaper on maintenance.
