mad...!

Got up early this morning, looked at the zed and thought mmmmm, needs a wash. so there I was 6.45am this morning washing the thing at the front of my place much to the amusment of some on-lookers walking past!.

Is that madness or sheer love for the car?.

Yes madness. I started washing mine on Sunday after lunch. Looked nice and clean but let down by the inside wheel rims, nice and dry day, so off come the wheels. Ummm engine bay looks a bit dirty. I had forgot to polish the car, so I finished up at 8pm in the dark buffing it under torchlight. Night car cleaning is a spectator sport, the neighbours were all laughing. Looked good Monday morning though. Shame was it dirty by Monday night again. Ahhhhhhhhhhh

think it's a black thing...

Spent hours and I mean hours washing and polishing mine at the weekend; come Monday evening also looked dirty again frown.gif

Red tends to stays so shiny for much much longer; Silver never seems dirty!

Nah, not madness...

I've bought most of the Autoglym products, my Zed has her own sponges which don't get used on any other of our cars and the wheels get treated to a toothbrush cleaning to get into all the little nooks and crannies. Can take a full day to wash / wax and polish my car. smile.gif And it looks brilliant! Until I drive 2 yards down the road and then it's coated in gunk again... rolleyes.gif

On the plus side, someone I work with knows someone who knows someone who knows the cat's cousin's flat-mate's hamster's sister's mother's terrapin who works in a motor shop and can get discounted AutoGlym products! biggrin.gif

Madness is also blatting home on Thursday night from Worcester (a full 100+ miles) to pick up the Zed, give her a wash and drive back to Worcester to go and pick up a bumper from Johnny's Friday night.

Finally spring is here this week...me thinks that its time for the targas to come off and do some cruising through the local town centre, with my clean zed!!

John and Rob,

Its a black thing all rightee frown.gif

mines impossible to keep clean..

Black - gorgeous clean and shitty 10 seconds later!

I just splurged out on a new sponge, some autoglym polish and a wax spray for the end of the hose. Jeez, what am I running a million bucks Ferarri?

Was sunny after work yesterday, targas off for drive home. Oh yes NOW I remember why I love this car. The looks, the speed and the admiring stares in the sunshine from joe public.

John where can I get that rear spoiler from? Is it just fitted to a stock rear spoiler?

It is a large Universal Rallye spoiler. Costs about £170 + VAT from Online Auto Sports in Lichfield Staffs. Tel: 01543-252010, Email: info@tuning.co.uk

Web: www.tuning.co.uk

I mounted it on the tailgate between the glass and the standard spoiler. I will be at the Easter meet this Saturday so come over and take a look. Alt there is a pic of the rear in my rides.

Spent till 2am with the auto glym last night then vacumed it cleaned the glass and now i dont want to take it out of the garage for fear of bird shit (not to mention the half an hour of driving it on to blocks of wood to give it the clearance to get on and off the bloody drive!)

John, when you changed your steering wheel did you keep your cruise control?

No I couldn't find anyone supplying universal hubs that handled the HICAS and Cruise Control mounts so initially I decided that the car could do without them both. However in light of more recent longer journeys I pulled the old steering wheel apart and remounted the cruise control buttons unit down to the right hand side of the dash in the fabric/plastic panel. I cut a hole and glued it through it and rewired it back to the loom. Works ok.

Actually I had this bodge job idiot working with me that day called John (just a quick job) Newcomb. I think he was on drugs cos when he spotted that the new Momo hub wouldn't fit with the HICAS plate in the way he pulled it apart, breaking it. I have purchased a secondhand one from AndyP and I am now trying to get hold of a new hub from MJP to fit the Momo wheel and retain the HICAS as I think the handling really needs it.

My car is Silver & it very rarely needs a wash. In fact, I only really need to clean the wheels & it looks fantastic!

Dirt and bird crap obviously slides off silver naturally.

Thanx rock_star and others. Thanx for the bad back, broken knuckles and overdraft at Halfords. After an entire winter of closing one eye, squinting and thinking "doesn't look too bad in the shade" and "anyway, silver doesn't show the shit", I read this post and consequently gave all my money (well, all the money I had left after not solving the propvibes) to Halfords.

Primer, matt black, wheel clean (4 effing times), and the delights of wash, polish, glass clean, oh f*** where's the vinyl cleaner (oh no, the cat's eaten it.).

Until this happened, the neighbbours thought I was too posh to wash (we have a bunch of Kosovan immigrants at the end of the village camping at the garage with a jetwash and a teatowel) and now they can see I'm so poor I have to mask the car with half inch masking tape and a copy of the Grauniad.

Hey ho - I'm sure she feels better and I hope you won't laff 2 much at my poor attempts on Sat.

Bastards. biggrin.gif
