Just a random question really to see if the route most people take here is the route I have taken on other cars....

1) Rollng road check to see what it is running.

2) Air filter

3) Exhaust

4) De-cat

5) Change plugs leads to colder grade

6) Boost contoller

7) up boost

Pretty basic first steps really but just seeing if the z goes the same way

assuming basic boost is 12-13 psi waht can u run safely on standard chip, turbos etc...equally what kinda power and how much of an impact on mpg...the mr2 didnt really cahnge much

That sounds pretty good mate. Would need the chip done with the boost controller though so you don't go lean. 1 bar or just over is a good safe amount that I use but theres lots of people who run higher boost on here . There's on going debate about de-catting effecting the turbo seals but if this is a problem then your turbos will die after upping the boost anyway, and you need to de-catt for the extra flow.

If they die then its a good excuse to uprate them, surely as long as the decat and exhaust is a smooth unrestricted airflow then the turbos should be fine, isnt it the back pressure that puts the turbo under strain? turbo flutter and all that? thats why I didnt use an after market BOV on my Mr2 t To make sure everything was blowing and sucking the correct way. I may be wrong about the z's as im new so please correct if im wrong, i am only 25 after all lol

I think peoples argument is that the back pressure helps to keep weak turbo seals intact. I don't really go for it myself but it kind of makes sense. Its common sense that de-catting helps flow better so I'd always do it. If you are considering bigger tubs it is an engine out job so its worth doing other bits at the same time.

why would you want to encourage weakness? if your modifying your car you wouldnt want any week spots surely? sure I will find out anyway, been talking a lot with Lee from import-once should have one in a few months, once i got money saved :) looking at a 1994+ 2+2 TT
