sometimes my dipstick keeps coming out by about 5mm doesnt do it all the time i think mainly when cold bit not sure on this.

what can cause this

crankcase pressurisation...... possibly try typing dipstick in the search bar funkysi had this problem and i think it was his rings!!

just checked oil and its just over the h .as in its just before the cable secton

 

will the pcv things do this like i said its only now and again no oil is being lost

If you search for pcv replacement then a few of the website guides do mention this could be because of them. However, if it were your pcvs would have thought you would get a smokey idle as well?

might replave them anyway to be on the safe side is there anything else to change i.e pipe work

9 times out of 10, crankcase pressure is down to blocked breathers-I would go for the PCV's first bud and go from there. ;)

Yup, get 2 things done. Replace the PCV valves and the hoses. You might be lucky. An indication as to rings would be oil vapour pulsing if you take the oil cap off with the engine running.

 

Get a compression test done. Mine used to throw the dipstick out and then threw oil out as well. Melted pistons on mine.
