ive got 3 ac autotechnic guages(volts, oil pressure, water temp) im installing them under the stereo.

im wanting to know if i can use the live from the stereo to power all 3 guages and also use the same earth as the stereo.

if not where is the easiest place to take a live feed from?

also, can i splice into the original water temp sender and run both the original guage and the new one at the same time from the original sender?

Clock backlight – You can use the illumination wire (Red/Green) from the stereo wire for this.

 

Earth – You can use the earth to the stereo

Live - You can use the perm live (Yellow) to the stereo

 

Technically it’s best to take the voltmeter reading directly from the battery, as if you stereo power cable is overloaded by a mega power stereo system the voltage will drop and give you a false low reading. If you have a standardish stereo then all should be ok.

 

Water Temp – The sender and gauge need to be of the same type, ie VDO etc, I don’t believe that you can share one sender between two gauges and its likely that the Z sender wont suit the Autotecnic gauge

does anyone know what size hose adapter sender id need to make the water temp guage easier to fit.

I did, I cut my old top hose in half to measure it, then realised that my new Samco top hose was smaller so didn’t keep the measurement!

Wouldn't it be better to used a switched +ve supply rather than a permanent +12volts??

I agree - plenty of suitable earth points down in the driver's footwell by the fuses :)

An ignition feed would be better surely for a voltmeter rather than straight onto the battery, the gauge would be on all the time.

 

Si could you keep me posted as I have a set of AC Autotechnic gauges as well to fit and possible send me some pics. I have a water adaptor for the top hose in my car i'll measure for you in the morning.
