Guys,

Going to the ring in september. Anyone got any real world advice of their Z at the ring (I have rehearsed on Gran Turismo)

Most worried about frying brakes and tyres :(

best is to make sure these things are in near perfect condition:

-brakes (pads, fluid, discs)

-suspension & tires (shocks, tires in good condition and correct pressure)

-cooling (especially if you want to drive there in the summer...do not use the aircon !)

-engine oillevel

empty the car with as much as possible...saves weight and is safer (no flying objects in case you have to brake/corner hard)

if you are an inexperienced driver or if it's your first time on the ring..forget about it when it's raining ! VERY scary in a ZED :D

Check Above

Check everything

Check it again.

Throw grand tourismo out and watch real videos. I CANT BE MORE CERTAIN ABOUT THIS. Games are fasrter and lead to a false impression.

Do NOT RACE.

Watch your rear view mirror as you enter and exit bends. You wont beleive the speeds some of the cars can do.

Brake and gear change before the corners, dont brake into teh bend or during unless you have to.

Concentrate on clipping apex and use all of the track.

Make sure you are smooth.

If you throw you car about it will unsellte and youl find yourself in trouble.

Be very wary of bikes, you will know what I mean when you do a lap.

Your car can take far more stick than you think, as I found out.

As long as you concentrate on adding power and brakes smoothly youl not come a cropper.

If you jerk it about, your gona go off.

And no matter how good a driver you think you are, I am telling you, your naff.

Remember that, take it with you. YOUR A NAFF DRIVER.

This way you will survive as if you think you are way better than reality youl hit a wall, and you get charged heavily for teh repairs.

If you concentrate on going round smoothly and use the Brkes as little as possible youl do a mid 9 second lap easy.

The only thing i can't stress enough is brakes. Stock discs & pads are rubbish. The FIRST serious stoppie you do they will fry, fact.

I did a trackday at Bedford Autodrome on the gran turismo circuit. On the main straight these is an S chicaine, you approach @ ~130mph and brake down to ~75mph to make it round the left hander..... Now with my stock setup the brakes were fooked at 100mph, and I still had to scrub off another 25mph.

This was not a progressive thing, it happened on the first lap that i pushed, and was there for the remainder of the day.

Note, i've never felt it on the road before or after. But then again you dont do many 130mph heavy stops on the public roads :wack:

The ring advice

Make sure u got plenty O lube

 :D

Brakes,Tyres and brake and change gear before you think you need to.

The rest is for fun

Hope you have a great trip :)

do all of the above ......""BUT"" don't 4get to have fun

That clip is so cool. LOL

I have some track and racing experience behind me and have never made the trip so i wanted to understand how the Z fares there seeing as it was originally partly developed there. (handling and endurance work) I cannot believe we ended up with the brakes we did but that was then and this is now.

I have got my big brake kit waiting to go on and my nismo suspension set-up will be on in the next few weeks.

Cannot wait to see what it is like. Is the hype justified?

Chris

FORGET TEH HYPE

It realy IS that good

the car that is when you get the suspention done. Oh just a word to the wise. For gods sake take it to a suspention specialist and have the geometry set up properly. Just aligning the wheels isnt enough if you want shit hot handling.

But the ring realy is that good.

Wow! thats fast

WHAT do you mean "THAT'S fast" I did a 9:47..IN my N/A on my second lap...sub...9:00...after 10/15..lap's..over 3 day's ..each day a little more that and little less that.......BUT BUT do not TRY and be a "HERO"" on the 1st day it's 21 km long ....just try and get 3/4 corner's good each time you go out.....a guy in the hotel with us has been around the ring 50/55 time's and he is just getting to grip's with the track........that's his last 3year's hol's..and his wife is in the car with him ,,,stop watch in hand,, he was 52year's old and i think the wife was older.......top bloke...ford ST thingy(red with go fast thingy's on it)
