Advice on buying an import

I'm looking to buy a 300zx TT, seen one that seems like a good deal, but it's an import. Anyone know what sort of documentation they should have so I know it ain't one that's been nicked and imported on the sly ?

Cheers

If you call this place up http://www.usaveauto.co.uk/index2.html they will confirm that the car is at least what it says it is.

I don't think that many of the Zed's are nicked, most of the stolen import problem is around the high value 4WD's and Skylines etc.

The documentation does vary, I have f-all with mine but the single sheet of import documentation. If you are lucky you can get more (like the service record in Japanese!)

at very least make sure it has the full japanese de-registration documents, if it was nicked its highly unlikely it would have been de-registered in japan

When you do get one, dont FFS park it anywhere near Highbury mate wink.gif

Can't say I'd really wanna park it near Tottenham either. :-)

Think I'll skip on this one, he has no documentation and reckons the bloke he bought it off personally imported it but he didn't have anything either. Was well shadey about anything I asked him about it.

If you want an import and want to personally import one let me know. It will take about 8 weeks from start to finish, and you will get all the documentation, and pictures of the car before it leaves Japan.

i think the best piece of advice is not to bother and pay a bit extra for a uk one..........its not worth the aggro on parts or insurance had i the chance to do it over again i really would by a uk spec because no amount of a bargain can compensate for the shit you get with an import especially insurance

I;ve read up on buying imports and the best way to do it is via a company who will hunt you out a car at an auction,

If you pass me the import code that is assigned to the vehcle when it was imported I might be able to get a freind at customs to check it out and give you the details of where the car came from and who initially imported it ect.

What the guys have already said is right.

Personally I wouldn't!!!

Reason being that the whole point of buying an import was that it was cheaper.

Now years ago or with a brand new Skylark that is still the case. However, if you are looking at paying say 5K for a Z I would scour the land for a UK spec one instead! wink.gif

Look at yer extra costs, insurance is a bitch, getting the clocks done is a bitch, speed restrctor at 112.5 mph etc.

Fuck me, I just wouldn't bother anymore! LOL biggrin.gif

Unless like I said you're looking at a new(ish) Skylark! IMHO

Toyota maybe, Nissan??? Fuck right off!!! biggrin.gif

I agree, if I was stupid enough to be going out and buying another 300 the last thing I would be doing would be buying an import. GO BUY UK is the only sensible way to go and then only if you have a serious bank balance to finance the maintenanc, it's worse than a divorce settlement arranged by the CSSA!

Why all the pooh pooh of imports frown.gif ?

My import hasn't missed a beat and the insurance is exactly the same as UK with Norwich Union Direct - they dont load JSpec Twin Turbos.

A good Jpsec is a good JSpec simple as that.

Except the bulbs are wonky and there is a small bomb in the passenger footwell LOL

Anyone know how much the last models from Japan are going for?

The cash i'm spending on my '91 Z could buy a nearly new one!

Senna. When is your NU Direct renewal due? I was insured with them last year and they advised me at renewal in January that they were no longer offering renewals on policies covering imported cars and would not be offereing to renew my policy.

Just out of interest, I tried Churchill Insurance only to be told that I would have to be 30 before they would consider insuring me for my car... rolleyes.gif

Ne'er mind... biggrin.gif
